If Dergachyova didn't blow a tap in it would have been 1-1 after the first period.

Its almost impossible for 20 year olds to beat a bunch of 26+ year olds but its something to build on. A lot of these girls carrying Team USA and Team Canada won't continue another Olympic cycle so that should even things up in the world. Russia's only 'older' core player is Sosina who is still 25. So it should be much of the same team in 2022 only more in their prime years and some of the promising girls right now that are 15-17 can push the borderline girls off the team.

Officiating in the women’s game is bad but in the other way compared to men. Referees see something right in front of them and don’t call it because they didn’t mean to do it.

If you actually watched the replay, you'd see that the referees were looking the other way.

Why would an American ref want a Canadian team in the finals?

If anything, they would want the Olympic Athletes from Russia in there.

It would increase the odds of the US winning exponentially.

Or, the ref just missed it and made a mistake.

Finland is objectively the third best team in women's hockey.
