Drafted by the Gatineau Olympiques with the eighth overall pick in the 2020 QMJHL Draft, defenceman Noah Warren came into the league with big expectations. The big defender never seemed to find his game in his rookie season, a year that was interrupted for big periods of time due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. Warren scored just one goal and three assists for four points in 29 games. He also added one assist in four playoff games.

Here's what Pronman said: "Warren’s physical tool kit is what draws him to scouts. He’s about 6-foot-5, and skates quite well for a man his size. When he’s bringing pucks up in transition or closing gaps efficiently on checks with his body he can look like a pro defenseman and someone who will make a lot of stops versus men. The question on Warren for higher levels will be his offense and whether he can move the puck. He shows good flashes of skill and being able to make plays on the move, but it’s a very inconsistent aspect of his game. If he can make a reliable, consistent first pass he’ll play all day in the NHL but that’s what he needs to prove.'

Pronman had him at 83 with below average skating, puck skills and hockey sense, average compete. Projected as "having a chance to play games".

(FWIW, I really like this kid/pick.)

Adam Kimelman - NHL.com - June 29th: "The right-shot defenseman is physically mature (6-5, 224), has a good skating stride and scouts like his speed and agility."

Hadi Kalakeche - Dobber Prospects - June 18th: "Effectiveness is the name of the game for Warren. Everything he does on the ice serves the purpose of prolonging offensive sequences or shortening defensive ones. His board game is aided by his frame but mostly supported by outstanding habits."

Scott Wheeler - The Athletic - June 6th: "He can step up and play the body but there’s also a quiet calm to the way he matches and keeps opposing players to the outside. If he can develop a little more confidence carrying the puck (which came as the year progressed) in transition and atop the point, the rest of his game should translate."

Corey Pronman - The Athletic - May 31: "He’s about 6-foot-5, and skates quite well for a man his size. When he’s bringing pucks up in transition or closing gaps efficiently on checks with his body he can look like a pro defenseman and someone who will make a lot of stops versus men."

Seems like he's a bit of a project.

Great pick perfect fit. Big strong and good skater. Should be a good compliment to all the offensive defensemen in our system.
