Dumbass really messed up the market with overpaying Matthews/Nylander and now he had no choice with the best player of the 3 - Marner. Good luck to the rest of these GM's.
Your boy Chia Pet is the one who reset the market signing a C who had only scored 77 points at the time to an avg of $8.5/Y. With the year he had, the contract looks great however if he stayed in the 70 pt range it would look bad which at the time of signing everyone thought he was overpaid.

Marner scored 94 points coming off his ELC without the shadow of McDavid. Adjust that with cap inflation since Draisaitl was signed and its not what you make it out to be.

If Marner is better, how come the consensus among experts was that he should and will be paid less? ...and now he agreed to be paid less? Hmmmm. Part of your theory doesn’t seem to make much sense.

Nobody credible believes Mitch Marner is better than Auston Matthews.

Even if all three are overpaid by a million, it's better than overpaying a fourth liner by four million like Lucic.

It's far better to overpay stars by a little than depth players by a lot, and the Leafs depth players are on very good deals.

Look at point totals.

Rantanen - 87 (96 point pace)
Marner - 94 - Signed for 6yrs/$10.89m
Point - 92
Aho - 83 - Signed 5 yrs/$8.45m
Tkachuk - 77
Connor - 66
Boeser - 56 (66 point pace)
Laine - 50

Should regress from Rantanen downwards. Of course, term needs to be taken into consideration as well.

Depends on years for the contract, and some of the values change looking at a two year picture

But if Boeser was on 66 point pace, than Rantanen was on 96 point pace... shouldn't he get more :snide:

Considering Kucherov out scored Point, was closer to UFA status, and took a 9.500/8 contract I think 9.500 should be the max offered for point. I think the only way Tampa remains competitive is for everyone to take discounts. It seems like the other leaders of the team have.
