The original post has a supposition of expansion being over.
Why would the NHL be OK with relocation when expansion will bring in at least a mid 9-figure sum? That expansion money is enough for a lifetime of (paper) losses for the likes of the supposed sad sack existing franchises.
They could screw up a big market like Houston--Cue the white collar criminals who gutted the Atlanta franchises for personal gain. And cue the financial-ignoramuses who saw their failures as proof of inherently bad sports markets.
