UMD into the final.
Samberg 1g + 1a and +3 in the semifinal today.
He just plays a solid, shutdown game. Big, rangy, good stick, with a very physical game.
He's ready to turn pro, and it might not be that long before he makes the NHL.
I've been super high on this kid from day 1. Great to see him excelling when it means it the most.UMD into the final.

Yup. Big, steady minute munching defensive D. As you note, his gap control is excellent and he makes smart, crisp passes. He plays a very safe game. His gap control, ability to destroy rushes, and deny zone entry is outstanding. He also is very cool with his puck transition. He was out on the last minute of play of course and looked so relaxed and comfortable.

Not related to the Jets but the colour commentary for the game just called Nick Wolff of Minnesota-Duluth "brain dead" on air. Anyone know who's calling the game?
Edit: It wasn't a good play, but I'm not sure someone who is probably getting paid to provide commentary should be calling players brain dead.
Kevin: "absolutely!"Perhaps but just once, I would like to hear Beyak say, "Kevin, that was a pretty brain dead observation".
Samberg is on tv tonight comrades.
“With more of an edge than Hanifin. But Hanifin isn’t soft”.Samberg was a beast. Big. Mobile. Physical. Moves the puck nicely with a first pass. Announcers said he looked like a future 1000 game NHLer, and likened him to a more defensive Hanifin (based on size and mobility).
Loved hearing these type of comments as well. At this point the kid is a guaranteed NHLer it is just now a matter of how far up the lineup he plays.Samberg was a beast. Big. Mobile. Physical. These 3 are all very different players. Poolman is well into his prime years and will be a steady 6/7 guy in the NHL. Niku has skill to burn and has tremendous offensive instincts but still appears lost in his own end and rarely wins a 1 on 1 puck battle. But the upside is huge. Samberg is a prototype 2nd pairing NHLer. Not a ton of offense, but very sound in every part of his defensive game and is a very good skater and puck mover. If 2 of Niku, Poolman, or Samberg become what people are saying we struck gold.
I think he could fit nicely alongside Byfuglien.Samberg definitely looks pro ready. Likely makes the Jets next year over Kulikov, Morrow and Beaulieu.
