Article says that the sides are close on salary. The Wings have made both 1 and 2 year offers to Green, the hold up will be if Green can get better term without sacrificing salary.

I doubt Mike green will really want a 1 or 2 year deal unless the aav offered is worth it to him, so I'm hoping there aren't any new offers given to him if he's turns them down.

Considering how picky Green appeared to be at the deadline about where he could be traded, I'm going to assume where those longer termed similar salary offers come from will be a factor as well.

I hope somebody else he's willing to play for gives him a 3-4 year deal. He certainly wasn't the biggest problem on the roster, but I'd rather just move on.

I'd say he was a legitimate bright spot on the roster, but I'd still rather we just move on if he's not interested in taking a TDL-friendly deal.

He points out that Green is Detroit's best defender, which really underlines how pathetic they are at defense, when a guy who would be bottom pairing on a contender is considered vital to Detroit's top pairing.

wish this narrative would die

the guy spends one season at the age of 29 being 5th in defenseman icetime on the caps(while still playing 19 minutes) after SEVEN consecutive years of playing 23-25+ minutes/night on that very same team and all of a sudden he's a lock forever to be bottom pairing on any contender

I understand that people want to move on from Green, but without him who replaces his production? Is it really good for Larkin and Mantha to have no help from the blue line? Hronek isn't quite ready, he still needs to work on his defense and Hicketts just came off of a down season.

I'm fine with this.

Not exactly gonna turn our team into a contender. Give Holland another chance to flip him at a deadline, could still land us a nice pick in the right circumstances.

But even as a middle pairing kind of guy, he's never been very good defensively, and this past season he had more games than I can count where he showed every bit the lack of effort that Blashill criticized other players for. I will most definitely be a little disappointed if Mike Green is a Red Wing again this year.

Mike Green on a maximum term of two years is exactly what Holland should be trying.

It's pretty clear the Wings will not go longer than that which is really all we should be concerned about.

Also, for those saying it, I am amazed Kronwall played as much as he did, I really don't see him being able to do that again all season. I think they probably plan on him playing 40 games. With Ericsson, Daley, Green and Kronwall all on the wrong side of 30, it is pretty realistic to think one of the GR guys in Hicketts and Hronek sees a ton of time next year even if they ink another D-man.

First, he only played 4 consecutive seasons of getting 23+ minutes, so no need to make shit up and only 5 of his 9 seasons with the Caps did he hit that mark. Even counting the one season he got over 23 minutes with the Wings that is 6 seasons in the 13 he's played. So, it seems your facts don't match your BS.

Second, his time on ice started to drop when he was no longer an elite offensive D-man. For him to be effective he needs to generation offense. Once he no longer generated a ton of it his time dropped, because he became a net negative when playing against the other team's best talent. And worse, as time has gone along his defense metric, and his possession metrics have both taken nose dives. He's not only nearly as good as he was offensively, he's not even nearly as good defensively.

Third, my comment was about Mike Green the almost 33 year old, who is a shadow of his former self. He really does currently slot in as a bottom pairing PP specialist on good teams. He's not a guy that a great team will feature on their even their middle pairing, and most teams would have to think long and hard about him on their middle pairing. He's just not that good defensively and his offensive numbers don't make up for how bad he can be in his own end.
