So, Granato is headed back to his alma mater now that the season is over. Any thoughts on who might fill his spot? We obviously need someone who can run a powerplay so I was curious to see who is available and who you'd like to see here.

I would bring Dave Cameron (former Sens bench boss) in, he always seems to get the most out of his players.

Well I think Chelios will replace him as the defense and PK guy. As far as the power play guy I really hope Blash's croney is let go. He ruined our power play. I'd consider Dave Cameron, Guy Boucher or Todd Nelson (we really need to keep him around if at all possible so that we can move on from Blashill if it doesn't work out).

I mean, what is location, really
Ferschweiler is going to take his responsibilities to ensure the tank happens.

We should recognize this man as the only truly sane voice in that organization. He knows the team needs to tank, and he's putting in place the strategies to make sure it happens. You can't win games if you don't score goals, and he's got that covered.

Don't like the idea of handing it over to Chelios just yet with the state the team is in. Todd Nelson is out of the question also since he said he'll only take a head coaching job.

Someone with a good bit of NHL experience under their belt. Think a guy like Randy Carlyle would take an assistant job? Probably not, I dunno.

Chelios has already said that he can't do it on a full time basis, Because of his family situation so i seriously doubt that Chelli is even in the conversation at least full times any ways.

I'd love to get Adam Oates to come coach the Powerplay. I'm not sure he'd be interested in an Assistant coaching gig though.

This is my guess.

Oates already guest coached for a week this season, barring him getting a head coaching gig, I think this is the direction the team will go.

It not only gives them a PP specialist, it also provides a back-up with NHL experience should Blashill not work out.

Boudreau?

Wild idea here:

With the Ducks out, I suspect it is a matter of time until Bruce Boudreau is let go. He has his problems (most notably in the playoffs), but he does have a relatively good record with team building and handling youth.

What if we did something similar with Blash to what Colorado did with Tony Granato a few years ago: move him to assistant, and bring in Boudreau as the head coach? For no more than two years. The Wings get the benefit of a new system, a "not Babcockian" way of doing things. Boudreau rights the ship, builds structure around the youth and mentors Blash. Blash retakes the reins in two years, better equipped to handle the full-time gig and with a more solidly build, younger core. Boudreau is there to take the heat in the lean years to come, builds his resume a up a bit, and moves on to the next gig.

Good idea?
Bad idea?

How about Nelson or Lalonde?

Seems unlikely that Nelson would want the job.

Nelson: “I want to be a head coach in the National Hockey League,†he told McLellan.

As Nelson saw it, the best route back to the majors wasn’t an assistant position in Edmonton or elsewhere, but rather the top job behind a bench in the AHL. So rather than pursue a role on McLellan’s staff, he focused his attention on finding a head coaching job. Ultimately, he took over behind the bench of the Grand Rapids Griffins, replacing current Detroit Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill in the role. It wasn’t an entirely new situation, as Nelson had been an assistant coach with the Griffins back in 2002-03.

As for the other guy (he's the Walleye's coach, right?) I admittedly know absolutely nothing about him, but I was hoping they'd get a guy with a decent amount of NHL experience.

Boudreau is gone.

I wouldn't mind seeing him be our head coach, but having him as an assistant would be great too. He got the Ducks to the top of the Pacific with defense and had the fewest goals allowed in the league. Their offense was brutal for much of the year. That would be a coup for us. I just don't see what we offer him.

That'd be sweet.

I don't see why the Sens wouldn't be all over this though. He probably won't be out of a head coaching job for long if I had to guess. Too bad...

BB would be a terrible head coach

TRP. TZE could tell you more about lalonde i think. All I know is that he turned Toledo from one of the worst teams to a championship team last year. I think they made the playoffs again this year

Agree  he would be good behind the bench.

Bob Hartley got fired too. We can dream that he can be an assistant, right?
