Niagara has been designated as the 15th overall pick, giving them their positions from rounds 2 through 15. That means Barrie has pick 20... giving Windsor the top pick in round 2!

The bad kicker to this draft is Windsor does not own their 3rd round pick where they would have picked 4th, they don't pick again until the 16th spot in the 4th round. Have to make 4 and 20 count.

Edit - we also have Flints 4th so we will pick at 13th and 16th in the 4th round.

So we get 2 very good picks and have a month to work out a trade for a 3rd rounder. Perhaps ( 2) 4ths & a 6th….

I'd rather take a 3 shots than 1 this draft. Without the minor midget season, there are going to be many unknowns where the separation between a round 3 and 4 pick may be pretty small. Unless they have a specific player targeted or a highly ranked player for the top round that has fallen to the third, I'd wait until that round to pull the trigger on any deal. If not, I'd much rather keep the two 4ths and 6th.

Agree, any other year picking higher as Punch suggests would be the move but this year I don't see much scouting/viewing that could disguise a difference between the lower rounds. Hard to guess where a kid will be at and the difference between a 3rd or 4th round pick will be minimal to warrant trading up for it.

Spitfires will pick 17th in the U18 Draft (the Wed after the OHL draft) and 51st overall in CHL Import Draft (June 30th). Kind of wonder if they'll find a way to move up in the Import Draft.

Segachev worked for them but that is all.

Sergachev, Rafkin, and Piiroinen were the best of the bunch. It's too bad Rafkin went home; would have been a huge help this season.
While looking at the info for these drafts I looked under Media Notes for info on whether the OHL trade window has re -openned yet but as expected nothing has been said...

True but for the sake of his potential career it was a great move. By going home he got valuable development time.

No question; he's having a blast over there and I'm glad he's doing well. TPS just made the Liiga finals. Just saying that he would have been a huge help for us in 2021-22 had he stuck around.

It's not a bad overall list, though I'd like to see a third rounder figured out somehow.

If Windsor isn't in a position to make a run, and looking and what other teams have they're not even close in terms of combined roster and draft capital there's a couple of teams that may have 3rds that could become available.

Barrie has 2x 2nds and 2x 3rds this year with no 4th while Niagara has 2x 2nds, 2x 3rds and 2x 4ths with no 1st.

Barrie could be a team that contends this year, solid roster likely returning, barring any surprise changes to how things traditionally work and they are loaded with 2nds and 3rds plus conditional 2nds and 3rds between 2022 and 2025.

Niagara is a team that is likely rebuilding, has solid picks between 2022 and 2025 with the only real holes being no 4th in 2022 and no 3rd in 2023.

Barrie is a team that could have other deals follow during the season for those picks they have stockpiled if they are taking a run in which case it would make sense for them to deal a 2nd and a 3rd from this year's draft for more draft capital to trade in the offseason to the deadline.

If Windsor were looking for a 3rd this year, I'd talk to Barrie before the draft and if things run the way they usually do I'd be talking them about roster players for picks and prospects before the deadline. Windsor should have a couple of top 02s that would solidify Barrie's top 6 that should return a nice mix of prospects and picks for the future.

I don't expect any major deals before camp; not because it's how Bowler operates but they really do need to figure out what they have before pulling the trigger. Getting a third this year for something/someone isn't a bad idea. Perhaps a 4th this year and a 3rd down the road would entice someone.
