This post is just flat out not true. Almost universally everyone that matters has said the plan is to have body checking this season.

The only person who's said no is the Lisa MacLeod lady, and then less than 24 hours later the Premier of Ontario one-upped her and said she was wrong, they'll do whatever to have OHL go on as normal as it can be.

If it was no contact, they'd just cancel the season.

Lisa MacLeod just didn't come up with this on her own. Once again she was only the messenger. Those were just words from Doug Ford and at this point there still isn't a concrete plan.

I have to disagree - you have no idea whether there is a plan or not and I have no idea that there is a plan. Because it is not made public does not mean there is or is not a plan. You cannot state this as if it were fact because in reality you have no clue the status of a plan, just an opinion there is none because it has not been made public. IMHO there is a plan but they have not made it public. No organization would at this point not have the ground works of a plan and continually tweak it until it is ready to be made public. Branch and the government have both stated they have had conversations ( they are tweaking a plan). Rant over, carry on.

The way this has been handled is critical and frankly is eroding the O even further!!! The league was already struggling and the lack of a plan and some serious lobbying to start up is only hurting it further!! If the teams and league were funded properly play could start. There’s some serious concern from many of my connections that this could seriously jeopardize the viability of the CHL I’ve actually had 2 chats with people that believe this may cause a complete new league to be born!!

The current business model of the OHL/CHL hasn't worked for years. Now, all it's problems are being exposed.

While this certainly isn't good for the OHL/CHL in the short term if they see their weaknesses and act upon them it could be beneficial in the long run. If they don't then a new league coming up to take their place may be beneficial for junior hockey as a whole.

I would imagine if there's going to be a change in the current business model then contraction is on the table across the CHL. We could see all three leagues drop a number of teams, maybe go to 3 x 16 team leagues or even 2 x 16 - 20 team leagues. Fewer teams accessing the same talent pool increases the competitiveness of every team. Add in some alignment of the rules, some changes to how things are done in terms of the draft/import draft/import players teams can carry and you have a vastly improved product across the board.

If there were to be a new league to start up would it involve all new teams? Would it be some current owners looking to break away to avoid the costs of any potential contraction or simple losses that may be generated by the current league and it's troubles? The easiest way to achieve contraction would be to have a group of owners from each league that are comprised of the biggest markets walk away and leave the rest holding the bag.

A whole new league from scratch, new owners etc would have a tough time accessing arena rights if there's a current franchise already there. It would also hurt products in both leagues unless there is agreements on transfer rights etc until a new league has established itself which, with arena rights etc would be tough to do.

The only way a new league works is when the old ones fail completely or big money is behind it with the legal resources to chase the old leagues out.

I would like to see a complete revamp of junior hockey in the country and the best way for that to happen is through the biggest markets breaking away from the current leagues forcing them into bankruptcy unless they are willing to buy out some teams to maintain the old identity with a new business plan.

So you don't believe in the game of politics what Lisa MacLeod did was on her own? Or do you believe the experts are following information and this is what they are coming to. You aren't making an announcment like that without ulterior motives eg.. trying to start putting a plan together or have a better one. Read the reaction when Lisa made that statement and the reaction of Branch after that. No conspiracy theories merely the province was being very calculated with their statement. If they have had meaningful dialogue why make such a statement??

My response had nothing to do with the government position and all to do with "does the OHL have a plan". How , why or what is said by Lisa MacLeod has nothing to do with the OHL being proactive and having a plan in place. Yes the OHL plan has to be flexible and ready for changes in the landscape of a pandemic but the groundwork has to be place. I'm sure that the OHL has talked to members of the government, a feeling out process but there is no way they would have done nothing. A different response from Lisa, David and Doug tells you there has been no solid agreement yet. Like any other negotiation these 3 are probably not doing the bulk of the discussion anyway. Members of their teams are probably crunching numbers and ironing out the kinks long before top members of the government and the OHL take up any serious discussion in the future. Doug, Lisa and David will certainly go over some of the final drafts but any plan will be
good and lawyered up before they see it and quite likely rubber stamp it, like most of these types of agreements. There has to be a plan. In the end they will all come out "winners" with an agreed position.

Per Windsor Star - Maggio has been loaned to SK Lejon out of Skelleftea, Sweden. He'll play for the U20 team. It's a city of about 30,000 people in the NE area of the country along the Gulf of Bothnia. Maggio has been training with Knights' Logan Mailloux, who will also play for SK.

Some actual ice time might have him improve.

If the lack of players selected to the WJ team AGAIN isn’t enough to wake this ownership up nothing will!!! So disappointing to know they have the resources but choose not to give this team what is needed to produce not only draftable players but championships for the fans. Frankly disgusted!
