How many signed players?

This is who Windsor should have signed or have already played in the league.

Chris Playfair2000-05-31LW
Curtis Douglas2000-06-03C
Tyler Angle2000-09-30C
Connor Corcoran2000-08-07RD
Joseph Rupoli200-05-24LD
[TBODY] [/TBODY]

Daniel D'Amico2001-01-25C/LW
Grayson Ladd2001-03-01RD
Louka Henault2001-01-31LD
[TBODY] [/TBODY]

Will Cuylle2002-05-02LW
Jean-Luc Foudy2002-05-13C
Kyle McDonald2002-02-05RW
Matt Maggio2002-11-25RW
Michael Renwick2002-01-26RD
Dylan Robinson2002-05-03LD
Xavier Medina2002-01-20G
Matthew Tovell2002-01-24G
[TBODY] [/TBODY]

Wyatt Johnston2003-05-14C
Pasquale Zito2003-06-01C
James Jodoin2003-02-04RD
Daniil Sobolev2003-03-03RD
[TBODY] [/TBODY]

Ryan Abraham2004-04-05C
Nicholas De Angelis2004-05-22LD
Kyle Downey2004-03-04G
[TBODY] [/TBODY]

Egor Afanasyev2001-01-23LW
Ruben Rafkin2002-01-08RD
[TBODY] [/TBODY]

Afanasyev is now signed to play elsewhere, he could be back but thinking it's 50/50 at best.
Rafkin is playing at home this year, doubtful he returns.

Two of Playfair, Douglas, Angle, Corcoran and Rupoli won't be back. Corcoran is the wild card since he's signed. Like Afanasyev, 50/50 at best.

Three goaltenders and only two will likely be here for the season. Medina will be the starter and my guess would be Tovell plays B or C again while Downey gets every chance to take the back up role.

Out of 25 potentially signed players only 20 have a shot at leaving camp with roster spots, 10F/8D/2G. Windsor has some openings available but the big question, will they. If they don't have anyone they're willing to sign then we likely see a couple of deals to fill a couple of forward spots while Jodoin, if he's not ready doesn't make the cut. I don't think they're going to sign anyone else so other than whatever additions they make the roster is basically set with the only question marks being the OA situation and Jodoin.

You have Afanasyev grouped with Rafkin. Afanasyev is not an import but maybe they are shown together for another reason?

Yes. Both signed to play in Europe and likely won't be back.
Makes sense. Rafkin is signed but Afanasyev is "on loan". Does not mean he will necessarily will return to the Spits but he will likely return to NA to play hockey once the AHL or ECHL get going. I still think there is a small chance he may be back. I don't really think he is ready for the pros but playing with men in Europe will help with that.

I think that depends on a lot of things. Every day that goes by it's less likely you're getting 50 games in of an OHL season. If the NHL settles on a 40 game season I can see Nashville keeping him in Europe for the whole season. If Nashville really needs bodies then they most likely would bring him back to be in the AHL. I can't see an OHL season starting in Dec/Jan and having Nashville bringing him back to quarantine for 14 days just so he could play 30 or so games in the OHL.

Not to deflect the convo (really), but interesting note... Spitfires posted a pic of their old 90s jerseys on IG today. Not a "throwback" pic but seemed more propping it up. That would be a fun return, even short term.

So reports say that OHL will allow 30 players to camp, if one happens. Anyone remember how many were there last year? Doesn’t leave a lot of room for free agents.
I don't remember exactly how many, but there are generally around 45 in camp each year.

Disclaimer on the following: it's early, very early in fact, and who knows what happens from here on out. However, it's new, neat stuff to talk about. Nothing more. Nothing less.

NHL Preliminary "Players to Watch" List for 2021 NHL Draft came out. Johnston and 2021 CHL Import Pick Daniil Sobolev both given "B" ratings.

Just my humble opinion but if the OHL decides to start training camps Jan 25th, it will one of their stupidest decisions so far. Give it up. Plan on starting as per usual next September. Most of the teams would go broke if forced to play under these conditions and you have to think a good number will want to drop out of the league for the year. Most teams make very little money if any for broadcast rights. Attendees will be very few and revenue from concessions very poor.

CHL doesn't want to lose another Mem Cup. Though, I agree with you.

I couldn’t disagree more. What about the players? 4th year guys are now pretty much done. Draft guys have fingers crossed. All players have not had meaningful games since March and you want to forgo the year ? Not fair for the boys training their butts off everyday. They deserve more.

I think it's a tricky balance no matter what is done. If I'm the OHL, I'm strongly considering allowing 2000-born players to take part in 2021-22 if desired.

Some of these 4th year guys they should have the opportunity to play AHL/NHL this year instead of some facade of a OHL year. Eg.Robertson/McMichael/Harley/Tomasino/Suzuki/Kaliev etc.. Throwing guys out there having not played a game in 11 months for a race to the finish for 1 of 8 playoff spots? I can't see anything going wrong with that.... We are only going to see a season because they want to try and save face with a Memorial Cup so you can make the case it has more to do with finding the 4 best teams as opposed to the betterment and development of the whole league and players.
