Well- we were in this exact situation in Game 2 vs Winnipeg last year and we pulled it out- maybe we can do it again

(Of course Fiala is not here- lol)

“Refs always call the retaliation”. Seems like the refs ought to know that, and, you know question themselves on what they missed before delving out the penalty. I’m not talking about full blown replay review. I’m suggesting they use the gray matter between their ears.

That's basically how it's always been in all sports though. Let the little initial infraction go but call the retaliation. It is frustrating, but I don't know what the answer is without totally bogging down the game.

The NHL officials still call make up penalities.

That's all I need to know about officiating in this league.

Regardless, Smith needs to show the composure of a vet which he is.
