McDavid has proven he can put up points in the regular season or do you forget the individual hardware he's claimed already? His points per game has gone UP every year. And this was before this season. I can understand if a player is having a fluky year like Matthews and the amount of goals he's putting up as we still have to see if he can win a rocket in a full season. But McDavid. Has. Proven. Or maybe the reason the Oilers simply don't waste time with less effective PP formations and that's why their PP% is the highest in the league over the last two seasons.

I mean, the Leafs have the personnel on their PP unit to do the same, but for whatever reason just stopped clicking this season. Has it gotten any better since the Jets games? I've gotta admit I don't watch anyone else right now.

That's the problem with having elite vs medicore teams though. I'm sure every coach would like their most effective PP out there for 2 mins every time like the Oilers, but they can't. When you have multiple players that can score, it's more efficient for the team to have players engaged in the game (not sitting for 2 minutes every PP while the same 5 players keep playing), which is why the Oilers struggle to make the playoffs and other teams have better success regardless of the Oilers PP efficiency.

The Oilers method boosts stats but hurts the team.
