Will Benn and Kane bounce back?

Season 2014/2015 Benn won the scoring league, the season after, 2015/2016, Kane won the scoring league. They are stil elite players so do not get me wrong, but they seem very far away from being able to repeat that.

So 2 questions
1: What have happen to them, why are they not as good anymore, none of them are old.
2: Do you think they will bounce back?

A bonus question
Has the league become better in such short time? Many new young players high up in scoring league. Maybe that is the reason?

At the Art Ross contention level, the league has definitely become better in this short period of time. Most obviously because Connor McDavid entered the league.

As for the players in question for the thread, I would contend that the Art Ross seasons are the outlier years for these players rather than the other way around.

Yes they will, they are just to elite to not bounce back. The thing with Benn is he doesn't have to score 80+ points anymore. He has Seguin and Radulov to pick up the slack so he can focus on other aspects of his game.

Really? Kane is near PPG and Benn had major offseason surgery and is near PPG. Both are nearly 30. What kind of bounce back do you expect?

Kane is really just a few points off his normal pace? What's he bouncing back from? Since 2010, he's been in the top 5 - 3 times, winning the scoring race once. Winning the scoring race, scoring 100+ points wasn't the norm for him. He doesn't need a bounce back.

To art level. As I said they are still elite players, but pretty far from same level as they where when they won art.

Yes they are nearly 30, that is hardly old.

Kane was top 5 in PPG 4 of the last 5 years coming into this year, and the other he was 13th. Combined, from 12-13 to 16-17, he was 3rd in PPG behind Crosby and McDavid. This year he's 33rd. It's definitely a down season.

I think Benn will bounce back once Blake Wheeler agrees to fight him.

Yeah, they're producing roughly what they typically do in their career. Kane, in particular, had that one outlier year where he won the scoring title with 106 points. But generally he's closer to a point per game player, which is around what he is this year.

Imagine where Kane would be if the Hawks didn't have a sub-par power play the last 5 seasons. Oh, wait.... The only season the Hawks had a top 5 PP, Kane scored 106 points.

The fact that Kane is still nearly a PPG player this season, when the Hawks have an atrocious power play is....pretty amazing.

16.1% with the talent available to them is pathetic.

I seriously doubt either wins another Art Ross in their careers. Benn had a great year that was capped off in a 4 point night to win the award. While I don't think that 87 points is the absolute ceiling for Benn I think it's unlikely anyone wins another Art Ross with an 87 point season in the coming years. Kane had perhaps his greatest line mate ever, shipped away for a Saad return. Unless he manages to find crazy insane chemistry like that with someone again I think it's unlikely he ever scores enough to take a Ross away from McDavid.

People thought giroux, Staal and Kopitar were done too and look how they 'bounced back'.

Had Kane still jad Panarin he would have 90 points this year.

That trade is going to go down as one of the worst this decade.

Nope. See post #11.

Had the Blackhawks used DeBrincat as Panarin's replacement on the power play, like they should have....quite a few things might be different this season, including Kane's point totals... I guess that just made too much sense, though.

Benn had 89 the following season and finished 2nd, same season Kane had 106.

If Claude Giroux can bounce back to a 90+ point season at age 30, than Benn and Kane can bounce back to elite production too.

I remember that day vividly. It was a Friday and I was at a bar eating lunch. I looked up at the TV and saw the news break and couldn't f***ing believe it, and i'm not even a Blackhawks fans. What an awful decision.

They will have seasons of better production after this I'm sure, but Art Ross production is doubtful with you know who in the league.

I did miss the lockout season and such, but regarding last 5 before this season,

2017-2018 - Not in top 5
2016-2017 - #3
2015-2016 - # 1
2014-2015 - Not in top 5.
2013-2014 - Not in top 5.
2012-2013 #5
