Voted for Kuokkanen because he was scratched.

That's true. If a player doesn't play, then he can't suck.

I think we need to get back to the bunker mentality of 'next man up... Jack isn't here to save us', and just figure out how to put together good shifts out there.

The D isn't as bad as it looked this game. MB29 isn't as bad as some of these goals looked - he absolutely stole some last game. Could've been 7 against.

It's really down to our forwards limiting chances against and getting some forward lines going. I don't see any reason for stacking Jack at wing on another line. Play him with Rango and Kuokk again and get those two going. Vesey Bastian McLeod are fine together.
We've seen what the Mercer line can do.

It's just getting Nico Zacha Tatar going again and putting together some good shifts.

When things go bonkers, everybody tries to do too much and we all get out of position and wonky.

We don't expect them to score every PP
right?!? Thank god Dano got us to lower our expectations tonight. It was words of wisdom or the blood that pours from my eyes from watching the power play destroy my hopes and dreams.

And check it out, it's not like we're snake bit PP wizards. (Though I can't believe we can't we can't get an act of god fluke goal here at least.) Can you guess the two teams with lower xGF/60 (Expected Goals for)? I bet you can.

Number Two: (That says Buffalo Sabres)

Number one: (That says Arizona Coyotes and I'm mostly sharing these because this chart is so sad. And somehow their PK only have the 5th worst xGA/60 and 4th worst GA/60)

I don't want to like this post. It's too ugly.

I do think they got overcoached these past two games.

Just simplify and run the obvious lines. Tatar is starting to score a bit and that Nico line with him opened scoring against San Jose too.

And even when they weren't scoring, Zacha-Nico-Tatar wasn't giving up much which let the Mercer line go out and score goals to actually win games instead of make scores less ugly.

I think rather than watching film of their own powerplay, they should be watching a good team's power play and see what they are doing.

There's too much hoping and thinking and not enough just pounding the puck at the net and out numbering folks down low. We are such a soft perimeter team that we've got frigging Nico in front down low. That is as dumb as it gets. Stick Vesey, Bastian or frigging Graves or Siegs in front of the net, have Dougie back up top, and then let Nico, Jack, Bratt and Zacha just shoot and dig. Have Johnsson, Tatar and Rango on the second unit with Smith and Subban back. Big broken stick from Subban, three guys who can snipe with good hands and Smith to set them up with deflectable shots.

Hell watch a middle of the road power play. Every team seems to move more then we do. Our 5 guys are so static and we take so long to pass the puck. With no rotation and slow puck moving the PKers have all day to block shooting lanes and the goalie is never out of position.

We complain they don't shoot enough, but a big issue is there is usually never a place to shoot because they did such a poor job opening up lanes.

We have no net front traffic. Our zone entries are terrible and predictable.

Nothing is working so it's time to start from scratch.

Also Jack was always going to be rusty after missing so much time.

Easing him in at his natural position on a 3rd line makes more sense then putting him on the top line out of position.

Mercer and Nico could handle the heavy minutes until Jack got back up to speed.
Even when he's rusty, you can just see how smooth he is, he got a few good looks, which is a good sign. He's gotta learn to shoot more though.

I think our East west play is an issue 5 on 5 as well, but you can cover that up a bit with north/south play at evens.

You don't see us scoring goals like San Jose or Minnesota did where we are pulling either the defense or the goalie out of position or getting into a place to take advantage of rebounds. We don't really cycle well either IMO.

We are usually stuck hoping the goalie just misses a shot or one of guys makes a perfect shot and we don't have a pick the corners type of sniper to succeed that way.

It's the exact opposite defensively where we seem to always let the opposing team get in behind us to clean up easy rebounds or back door plays. We get pulled out of position easily and either get caught puck chasing or puck watching.

I think Geertsen has been weirdly scapegoated but if he wins points and gets in the next game for standing up for our net's honor after horn blew I'm on Team You Have To Be f***ing Kidding Me. Geertsen played 4:55 and the 4th line still got scored on.

Issue for me is its another line you can't rely on after we already have two out of wack lines with the 3 center line and the no center line.
