Why isn't there more talk about how good the Flyers are going to be?

The Canes 5 best forwards Avg age is 23.6(skinner,rask,aho,lindholm, staal)
Phillies 5 best are 25.8(voracek,giroux,konecny, simmonds, schenn, you could argue couts too)

The point is Cane's forward core is much younger, and their defence has fewer maybes and are on their way to being elite while being of a similar age too. Canes and Philly finished one point of each other this year, and the Canes roster as far as the core is concerned is younger. I get that Philly is going to add 2 good forward pieces next year and someone on defence but they have less cap space to work with and canes are adding pieces to their roster too.

The flyers top 5 is much better and higher end. The canes are doing good things there but they can't compete at forward. You acknowledge the flyers getting two players but don't project the age difference change. Patrick would have gone #3 last year and we will likely get him this year. Lindblom scored more for his age than guys like forsberg. Literally had one of the best seasons there all time. Players on that leage do great here with far less accolade. Those two guys drop the age gap significantly considering it's only two years. The flyers D are also likely further along than most would think. Hagg and Morin got some limited NHL time last season and looked great. Add them to ghost and provorov and we have a good looking D already. Plus Sanhiem and Myers in 1-1.5 years and will be good to go. Rookies matter more than ever now and should be given more clout. That means less time for them to reach higher end play.

Good players but unproven players, just like the Flyers d core, I doubt it will ever touch the Canes d core. Flyers will add some good pieces but they are an older team weird mix of players in their prime and players breaking into the league, whereas the Canes players are more of similar age and will enter the prime together.
Simmonds, Voracek and Giroux are soon to enter their 30's, while Patrick/Nico will just enter the league.

Team Canada Jr Goalie: Carter Hart
Team Sweden Jr Goalie: Felix Sandstrom
Team Slovakia Jr Goalie: Matej Tomek

3 Goalies playing at the World stage in the Junior (more than any other NHL team) and that's not include Stolarz who seems to be getting better and has an outside shot.

You must not have been watching what Hextall is doing and stopped watching in 2014.

Are they playing for the Flyers? Are they NHL stars? Have the helped the Flyers win? I'll get back to you after one of them is traded and wins a couple of Vezinas for another team. *cough* Bobrovsky *cough*

a lot is up in the air whereas tml, winnipeg have realized talent.

We don't know about sanheim, rubstov, morin, myers stolarz etc etc we just dont know how they will pan out. They could do well or bust.

Even if they all hit, that forward core is aging

I think this needs more visual recognition. Prospects are great to go on about, but ultimately if they don't pan out like everyone wants or wishes them to, then it becomes a messy business.

The prospect pool is very respectable, but that's ALL it is at this moment: a prospect pool.= Not NHLers, prospects.

There's so many people who are going to be so wrong and so much surprised, haha, I can't wait for it.

Starting 17-18. Looking forward to bump this thread.

Appreciate the OP who, as non Flyers fan, realize how much talent Flyers are going to have.

Honestly, it's because it's hard to see the Flyers getting a leg up in that division just yet.

The Penguins, Jackets, Rangers, Islanders, and Capitals should all be objectively better than the Flyers for the foreseeable future. It's hard to get behind a team that's "up and coming" in the Metro right now because we all know it's the toughest division in the NHL.

You'll have your day with that young core, but it's not imminent like the Leafs, nor has it arrived like the Oilers.

I agree with this fully. Being one of the best teams in the NHL can still make you 4th or 5th in the metro right now. So although i expect them to get significantly better they aren't going to get the hype other teams do until they can push one of those teams out and maintain that spot.

There's nothing objective in your sentence.

The canes are all D. They are already trying to trade for offense using their D. That will thin their D. The flyers do not need to do that. The Fwds are getting older but there is no reason G couldn't be a top 5 2C when he is done being a 1C. The flyers also have a nice stash of Fwds coming up from the AHL, minors, and Russia. Add to that this and the next draft will be very forward heavy. With our 20+ picks? the next two drafts we will be stocked. Not to mention moving up which seems possible this year to grab a forward they scouted in their original slot. Plus the flyers draft well at forward. Always have.

Richards
Giroux
Sharp
Williams

All late guys.

As far as the division. Yea you can go ahead and give it to the listed teams wouthout any games played. The jackets won a near record in a row. They limped to the finish and got handled in the playoffs( I know they gave good effort but look at the forwards they were relying on). He caps will be lesser. The pens will be hungover as hell. Playing nearly an entrie extra season over the last few playoffs. The rangers overachieved. Scoring goals with an aging and lesser D and goalie.

Not saying they won't be good, rather don't count on it as if it's fact. The metro last year was unsustainably good and it was a one year thing.

As others have said a lot of people will be surprised. Not much you can do about that but post on HFboards.

we're years away
the younglings on D have to develop, a goalie has to be found, the FWDs will need to be replaced/upgraded, years & years
