Put this Leafs team in the AHL and they'd score 10-12 goals a game. As bad as they are in the NHL, they wouldn't lose a single game. There is so much more space in the AHL, think about what players like Kadri, Bozak, Parenteau, Gardiner, Rielly, etc would all be able to do.

I'm embarrassed for the posters who think this would be remotely close.

people tend to forget the gap between the AHL and NHL.

it's pretty huge. even though it's a development league for the NHL, for the most part, it's a development league for non-first tiered prospects.

so it doesn't usually have the top tier 18+ prospects playing any significant time.

then on top of that you have the fact that most NHL teams with the cap now will tend to use players sooner than later, you end up with teams that have alot of AHL journeymen, where at the NHL level, there isn't much difference between a 4th liner and a 1st liner. Jagr said that nicely over the all star break on how the league has changed over the years.

i had a chance to play against Tie Domi in a pickup game that fairly good Jr A players. he literally kicked ass and took names. looked like Gretzky out there. it certainly brought home just how talented even someone we considered to be a non skilled player in the NHL- just how actually skilled they are, when you remove them from their peer level.

Sparks might steal a game but the Marlies would struggle to score . The Gap between Bernier/Reimer and Sparks is huge. The Marlies number 1 D would try to be our number 6. Nylander could maybe match the production of our top guys, a JVR or Kadri but no one else down there could. The forward depth would be noticeable.

The Leafs have every advantage.

Clean sweep for the leafs. Probably blowout wins.

There is a reason they play for the marlies. 90% of marlies players will bust

Not being rude. Thats just how prsopects work. Most bust

Nope, that is definitely not how it works!

That means 2 Marlies will make it, and the rest are a waste of time and resources?

The reason they play for the Marlies is because

- age
- development
- not enough roster spots
- conditioning
etc. etc.

It is not because Leaf mgmt think they'll be a bust! That is just absurd. It is actually quite the opposite, they play for the Marlies because someone far smarter than all of us combined see's a sign they won't bust.

Arcobello wasn't sent down because he was given up on, he was sent down because the Leafs want to develop him further. Sure, they risked losing him off waivers but that is how the system is set up.

After the injuries to Bozak, Lupul and Matthias, this is the lineup at practice today, and none of the injured three are expected on the road trip... so, anybody want to change their vote?

Grabner Kadri Komarov
Holland Arcobello Parenteau
Winnik Spalling Leivo
Clune Froese Boyes

No. That first line is like the legion of doom in the AHL.

The Marlies are 40-9-4 (1st in AHL by 16 points)

This is insane.

The Toronto Marlies are far and away the best team in the AHL.

This is a huge deal for the younger prospects and I'm sure it will have a positive affect on their development.

The Marlies are on pace to be the best AHL team ever.

Amazing.

What's best too is that it's being driven by the team's young prospects.

Burke's Marlies teams did well but his were being driven by AHL vets while he Leafs you never prospects were shoved down to the bottom six.

Wow that would be crazy.. id assume Marner would start in the 3rd line, i'd imagine the managment would want to see how he eases into heavy and stronger competition.

but that line up would be so dangerous

It is a pretty shameful tank job by the leafs this year.

If every player played to their potential the Marlies could make a series out of it, but in terms of the teams right now, its the Leafs winning.

As many have pointed out, Arcobello has struggled to play regular minutes on the Leafs, yet he is one of the best offensive players on the Marlies. Part of that could be the lack of opportunity on the Leafs but with guys like Kadri, Bozak, and Holland its hard to argue that Arco should be in their spots.

What many here have not mentioned is Bernier. Johnathan was struggling at the NHL level and was sent down to the Marlies for 4 games. In those 4 games he had 3 shutouts!!!

Those two examples should really show how different the two leagues are.

So damn impressive. I think the crop of Marlies we see in 2 years could be great as well, once the last draft class graduates to the pros.

Nielsen,Dermott and Marner's chances of a early play-off exit is pretty slim. Maybe in the calder cup final though. I think Keefe would be very reluctant to remove a player from the line-up at that point. Too much of a slap in the face to a player to do it. They could be injury insurance though.

leafs would get injured and couldnt call up any marlies, and wouldnt have a roster to ice. win by default.

1-0 leafs, marlies win.
