Crosby currently has 10:

2x Art Ross - 2006/07, 2013/14
1x Rocket Richard - 2009/10
3x Ted Lindsay - 2006/07, 2012/13, 2013/14
2x Hart Memorial - 2006/07, 2013/14
1x Mark Messier NHL Leadership - 2009/10
1x Conn Smythe - 2015/16

Ovechkin currently has 14:

1x Art Ross - 2007/08
6x Rocket Richard - 2007/08, 2008/09, 2012/13, 2013/14, 2014/15, 2015/16
3x Ted Lindsay - 2007/08, 2008/09, 2009/10
3x Hart Memorial - 2007/08, 2008/09, 2012/13
1x Calder - 2005/06

It seems like Crosby is in line for a few this year. Who will finish with more?

I think they will end up around the same at best,Crosby will win a couple more, but with the players in the league now he might not be guaranteed to ever even hit 4 more personal awards.

Injuries really took him out of the personal hardware runnings

Before this season I might have said Ovechkin's 6 Richards would be the difference, but Crosby can pick up a couple of awards this year while Ovechkin won't, lessening the gap.

Ovechkin. Crosby will win the RR this year, and I think that might be it. Too much good young talent in the league now.

Ovechkin has a calder, so 14. Messier bs isn't an award with any prestige, shouldn't count. 14-9.

Crosby will get the rocket this year, so 14-10. He might get the lindsay, so 14-11. He's not getting the Hart. Going forward I think Ovechkin can win 1-3 rockets and maybe a smythe depending on the caps POs, but probably not anything else. Crosby will probably be a top ross/hart/lindsay candidate for the next 1-2 years. I'd say Ovechkin ends with more.

I also think fans should put more emphasis on the number of times a player has been a finalist or a runner-up. I'd obviously take a player that finishes second or third in points for a number of years, than a guy that wins it one year, but is outside of the top-ten more often than not.

Taking out the Messier Award, it's 13 to 9 for Ovechkin. If Crosby wins the Rocket and Lindsay this year, that'd make it 13-11, but it'll likely start getting harder and harder for them at this point, and I think Ovechkin has more of a shot at the Rocket going forward than either do of the other awards, so I'll say Ovechkin stays ahead.

Calder should be in it since they both entered the league at the same time and the Messier should be dropped.

Will be close, maybe Ovi.

Calder Trophy no longer counts?

1) Take out the Messier award.
2) For those advocating to include the Calder, I would say leave that out. I consider it a fringe major award, but it's still not nearly on the level of a hart/art ross/lindsay/rocket/conn.

Crosby likely wins the Rocket this year, but I don't think he'll win the Linday. So after this season it's Crosby 10 and Ovechkin 13. At this point, the only awards Ovechkin can realistically still win is the Rocket and Conn. Crosby, I feel, still has what it takes to win any of the other awards.

I have a feeling that Ovechkin won't win any more Rocket trophies. And I'll say no to the Conn.
I think Crosby will win a couple more awards, maybe three. So I think Crosby will either tie Ovechkin or fall just short.

I think the Calder is a bit more relevant in this case because they competed for it in the same season.

No one uses the Calder in better player discussions. It's irrelevant when looking at players with multiple trophies for the actual best in the league.

In this case, it is relevant because Ovechkin had to go through Crosby to win it.

Exactly. And at least the calder is based on the full season, where as something like the smythe is based on a 20 game sample, sometimes less.

(no, I'm not saying Crosby didn't deserve his smythe).

The knock against the Calder is Ovechkin was a year older when he won it.

The difference between a 19 and 18 year old can be significant.
