Who sits when Booth/Kesler arrive?

Malhotra has decent value for what he does. He's at least worth a pick. San Jose would jump on him in a second, do we really want to have to take face offs against him, especially when we're already weak on them so far this year?

I'm not down on Malhotra. I'm just saying that I'd be shocked if they were trying to dump him in the minors. Stranger things have happened, but I would assume that if they're waiving him, it's to another team that wants him - especially with a chunk of his salary staying on the cap even if he's in the AHL.

Read this thread then go to the Avs forum and read about their current line-up problems. You will have a good day regardless after doing that.

I think its pretty clear that when Kesler gets back in, Ebbett will have to be waved. If we still have no injuries by the time Booth is back, Barker will get the wave too.

if Malholtra retires........that could happen? cap hit should count? I don't think he is going anyway but personal day must mean something but we won't know what is it

Here's hoping Chris Higgins has been fed misleading news.

I don't want Ebbett on the team over Malhotra. Malhotra should figure into the lineup even when everyone's healthy.

I agree. I'd take Malhotra over Ebbett 10 times out of 10. Haha I hope he's wrong too. He can be a real ass sometimes take it from me :)

2 players have to go. So perhaps Malhotra _and_ Ebbett?

It would mean that Volpatti "won out" over the rest, which I can see as being plausible at this point. They aren't going to dump Alberts or Barker because of the need for Dmen around the league. So they send down Ebbett, as he is accustomed, and Malhotra over Volpatti.

Malhotra has an underrated ability to win faceoffs and push the puck forward. Even with the eye injury. However, they may feel Lapierre can perform at close to the same level in this regard and contribute more everywhere else. So while Malhotra is a better specialist, he's not so good so as to secure his position over more versatile options. The waiving would happen to circumvent his NTC. Gillis said he wouldn't approach anyone to waive their NTCs, not that he wouldn't waive people with NTCs. Also, maybe they did some checking and found that his value is next to nil in the eyes of other GMs, so they figured waiving him was the best option? Maybe.

A million face palms to those who think Volpatti will be in the pressbox, especially for the playoffs. They guy hits like a truck and isn't a defensive liability while providing that energy, unlike other fourth liners around the league who only play four minutes a game. He is the type of guy who will crush someone (without taking a stupid penalty) and score a timely goal when it counts. [MOD]

Volpatti isn't a top 12 forward on this team...

Sedin Sedin Burrows
Booth Kesler Higgins
Raymond Schroeder Hansen
Malhotra Lapierre Kassian
Weise
Volpatti

And that's without any forwards coming in with a potential Luongo deal.

To me, there are 11 legit players on this forward group whereby many can be fairly interchangeable:

Sedin Sedin Kassian
Burrows Kesler Hansen
Raymond Schroeder Higgins
Lapierre Booth

These guys need to play all but a small handful of minutes. One of the top 9 listed here could round out that bottom line (essentially doubleshifting, or it can be done by committee).

Then you have these last 4 "depth" guys whose jobs really aren't all that safe. Weise clearly has the most upside, whereas Manny has utility.

Malhotra
Weise
Volpatti
Ebbett

You could have a lineup whereby the top 11 play 99% of the minutes in whatever combination, with Manny coming out only for key draws.

This is what I'd like to see, but I have a feeling we'll send Weise down and keep Volpatti or Malhotra in the spot.

Weise doesn't have to clear waivers, no ? Yes ? :dunno:

He does, we actually picked him up off waivers last season.

Not really much of critique, his view of the Oilers are certainly more harsh nut he can't voice it. Can this be seen as a veiled way to give some pointers to the Oilers?

Other teams certainly are picking up what the Canucks have been doing with their zone starts for certain players, so it is a possibility.

Anyway, I hope Manny isn't waived - he still serves a purpose on this team with faceoffs and the PK, plus his versatility on LW. I take him over Ebbett any day of the week. Anticipate that Barker would be sent down before him.

Ebbett and Barker get waived . unless there is injury then just Ebbett. However, i dont think anyone claims him so we could still recall him after the trade deadline.

Problem is now solved.... unfortunately for Malhotra.

Ebbett will be the one to go once Booth also returns.

I think so. Reasoning is he probably passes (hopefully) so we can recall him , and by some off chance Barker might get plucked by some other team looking for an 8th or 9th.

Ebbett is fairly one dimensional . Teams dont really have a need for him but he knows our system .

I like the looks of these lines. Hopefully Kassian can establish some chemistry with Kesler.

That 2nd line is well thought out. Two wingers that look to dish the puck first and foremost, to someone that finishes. They keep the 3rd line intact. Followed by a decent 4th line.

Glad Ebbett is not in.

Booth comes back, Volpatti sits. Still wouldn't mind a move to get another bottom6 player here to push everyone.
