Yeah it's gotta be Savard right? And that was 1995.

Savard hung around for parts of two seasons before being shipped to Calgary along with the 11th overall pick for Hlavac (the Czech Mates!) and the 9th overall pick (eventually Lundmark, who ironically spent most of his career with Calgary too).

Since then, we're talking Stepan, Callahan, and Dubinsky as far as guys with proven results. I'm...underwhelmed.

Callahan?

Marchant, Stepan, Dubinsky, Savard were/are all better.

I forgot Savard and Step.

Cally > Dubi and Marchant though.

I know people have a bad taste in their mouth from him, but his prime years and when he was a kid, he was a complete leader and beast for us on the ice.

Has to be Savard and he probably would have had another 4 or 5 seasons if he didn't have the concussion issues.

Savard
Stepan
Callahan
Kreider
Dubinsky
Hagelin

98 Draft, 131st overall : Tomas Kloucek

Not a forward, but the draft history brough back a lot of memories. Kloucek had a very short career due to bad knees but I have never seen a guy hit like he did. Absolutely crushed people. Was such a beast and he was pretty good too but...Damn knees!

Yeah, re Kloucek, the team has been just brutal defensively for so long that when he came along I thought we got our Scott Stevens. He hit so hard, he made Mike Sauer look like Tom Poti by comparison.

Still find it amazing that no Glen Sather drafted forward has ever scored 60+ points for the Rangers.

it's

cherepanov without a doubt. top 5 talent that was stolen with the 17th due to russian factor.RIP he was taken from us too early. god bless him where ever he is. he was holding records with names such as bure ovechkin malkin in KHL and proving he was a stud against men at 18-19 years old. siberian express was a bad ass nickname too. i still remember the day he passed away, i was floored. amonte, weight, stephan all solid. hope the butcher of broadway can be the next best one

I think we have only drafted around 5 forwards in the first round since Neil Smith.

The Rangers didn't draft a 20 goal scorer in the first round between Niklas Sundstrom (1993) and Chris Kreider (2009). Wasn't until 2015 that Kreider hit 20 goals.

Others can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe he was a better prospect than any of these recent Russian players like Tarasenko, Kuznetsov, Kucherov, Panarin, Buch, Kaprizov.

Paging Caser, Kshahdoo, Atas, any other Russian posters for help!
