Who do you take UFA - McDavid for 4 years, or MacKinnon for 7 years?

Who do you prefer as UFA for this year - assuming both cap hits are top 2 in league

MacKinnon when facing elimination:

5 GP: 0 G, 1 A, -7

Adding in the games where the Avs can eliminate another team:

7 GP: 0 G, 4 A, -10
In despite of those numbers, he still has 29 points in 25 career playoff games. McDavid has 9 in 13.

I'd take McDavid and trade picks/prospects, a ton to keep my team as competitive as possible for those 4 years.

McDavid is going to give me the best chance to win, so I'll take him for 4 years. Hopefully you get him signed after that, but you have to take that chance.
Yes because we’ve all seen what he’s done for the oilers

It's pretty dumb to throw a team's failures on an individual, but since you went that route let's check the first 5 years of their careers (keeping in mind that McDavid's 5th season hasn't finished yet)

MacK: 2 playoff appearances, 0 series wins

McDavid: 1 playoff appearance, 1 series win

Looks like McDavid's done more for the Oilers than MacK did for the Avs. Not to mention that McDavid was 100x better individually in the regular season as well.

The Avs iced the worst team in the cap era during mckinnons early career. They just got good last year. Mcdavid has actually had more team success than McKinnon did at the same point in their careers.

And it's not like MacK was doing anything himself. First 4 years of his career he averaged 56pts/82 GP. McDavid averaged 104pts/82 GP.

Damn I hate the playoffs comparison between Mcdavid and Mack when one of them played only two playoffs series at 19 yo the same way how Mack got 0 pts and -6 in two games against the Wild at 18 yo. Mack is a monster in the playoffs just watch the playoffs series against the Flames and his stats minus the cherry picked stats are still pretty good which is 29 pts in 25 games. Give a better sample size to Mcdavid before claiming one is better than the other in the playoffs.

Mack's first playoffs series at 18 yo where he still managed to get 10 pts in 7 games as a rookie even if he was a -6 in the last two games he was still +2 after that serie. Game 6 against Nashville they were completely out of that game dominated by Preds depth players the likes of Watson or Sissons (Avs killers) I will give you that one. I don't know if you've watched the series against the Sharks but boy they shut down Avs top line Rantanen played with a broken foot. As weird as it sounds depth bailed us to make it to 7 games. In game 7 Mack clearly hurt his shoulder but still came back to play and got in a breakaway before the period ended sadly didn't score he would've had that tying goal assist if it wasn't for that Landeskog one foot on the ice if it wasn't for Duchene that goal would've counted.. Matt F***ing Duchene  I think he wasn't that good against SJ but still produced same as Rants.

It's easy to extrapolate stats from bad games while you forget the good he has done still 29 pts in 25 games is impressive.

What are we trying to do here? McDavid is the best player in the league. We all know this.

I’m not sure why there’s a need to bring up three playoff games from MacKinnon’s 18-year old rookie season to add weight to the argument.

I'd easily take mcdaivd on my team, especially if that means running eichel as 2c
