So wait...it's acceptable to use this to defend ROR but not Stastny?

They both do a great job that doesn't show in stats. I just found the post to belittle ROR's part in the team's success, so I felt like I had to defend him.

ROR and Stastny lead Avs forwards in ice time. Shutdown players.

First of all he's number 90 and he leads all Avs forwards in ice time. 20:00 per game on average. 4th of all players. He does a lot that doesn't show on the scoreboard.

He wore 37 back then.

In a strict sense of the term, I consider Duchene, Mack, and Landy the core. Another strong season from Varly, and he's absolutely part of the "gonna be here a long time" core.

EJ and O'Reilly are just a hair off from that category IMO, but barring some huge blockbuster, they should be around a long time as well.

That's what I consider a core. The top end guys that you lean on, and are also highly likely to be here for the next 7-10 years. That's just a tad iffy with EJ. O'Reilly, and Stastny.

You build around the core guys, and you expect them to stay in that top end role, not slide down.
