I agree, unfortunately. We are still the superior team. But im starting to shiver at the thought of Karlsson to the leafs.

Nah. I'm not worried about that given they will need to resign guys with some heavy money sooner rather than later and adding another 12M player that's not on the books probably won't happen. Possibility but I don't think it's likely. At this point, given the structure, cap space and future of any other team not named the Ottawa Senators, it feels like Vegas will be the destination. Said it during the playoffs. They can afford him and he would be a perfect fit. I don't see how we sign him now or acquire him considering we would have to lose two of;

Callahan, Killorn, Miller, Palat and Johnson

In order to resign our guys and fit them under the cap. I don't see how else move half of them and the other half, well, we still need a lineup. McDonagh trade felt like a steal at the time and now it feels like it was the wrong move.

I just don't get why you would resign him until he's 37 when you have another season to evaluate his game and see if he's still a fit. What's the rush? I'd rather sign Karlsson, resign Sergachev on a bridge and resign Stralman for a top 4 than to have McDonagh blocking Serg.

So this whole JT is overpaid thing got me thinking and I decided to crunch some numbers to see who would be the most overpaid center in the past decade (over 8M cap hit). I used the average of the last 3 season prior to signing the contract, if only 2 seasons were available I used that (used prior because no GM can tell the future). **For 2012, I multiplied the points in the shortened season by 1.7. I know that's not perfect, but it was the best I felt like doing. I then divided the yearly cap hit for the contract and divided it by that average points scored. Here are the results.

Something must be in the water in Pennsylvania because those guys sign cheap contracts.

Of course this isn't perfect just something interesting I threw together in a couple of minutes to satisfy my own curiosity I thought I'd share. So Tavares isn't the most overpaid... just the sixth most. :)
