Crosby's 2016 playoffs - a pace of 65 points and 21 goals as a minus player - is a pretty weak argument.

And his Olympic run where he was nowhere near the best player on the team with a 0.5 PPG and a 0.17 GPG. Oh man what a legendary run.

It's going to be a heavy lift for the Canadian hockey media to continue to prop up these achievements for decades as if they weigh more than an extra Hart trophy and 7 additional rockets.
And yet Crosby has a far better NHL playoff career, NHL regular season career, and Olympics career than Ovi despite your very selective listing.

Considering both Crosby and Ovechkin are top 20 players all time (not to say higher) - and Datsyuk *might* make a top 200 player list - yes, it will be really surprising.

Lol you really believe Datsyuk is only *maybe* a top 200 player? Super strange opinion.

Great player with a great peak followed by extremely low valleys for a player of his supposed stacher and underwhelming playoff career save for one year. 65 69 and 71 Full healthy seasons in his prime is not something you will find on other mega star players.
Here's something I quoted you on a couple weeks ago that you didn't respond to, after having called Ovi's 71 point season "Disgusting":

"For what it's worth, in that "disgusting" 71 point season, Ovechkin was 1st in Goals and 15th in Points. For reference, Crosby this season was 12th in points/gp and 35th in goals/gp. In 2017/2018, Crosby was 10th in points and 33rd in goals. Are those "disgusting" seasons as well? You're laughable."

(Your takes are still laughable).

Did you miss the part where I used per game stats?

I said "Crosby this season was 12th in points/gp and 35th in goals/gp"

I did not say "Crosby this season was 80th in points and 123rd in goals"

Either way, Ovi's 71 point season was still a better season than Crosby's season this year, or Crosby's 2017/2018

Wow I never actually realized that. It definitely puts his season (which was clearly a down season) in perspective. Plus he was 6th in Hart voting that season compared to 17th for Crosby.

1st in goals >>>> 33rd in goals
10th in points > 15th in points
6th-place Hart >> 17th-place Hart

Shed some new light on that season thank you. More points =/= better season.

I understand that he only played 41 games this season, which is exactly why I used per game states and not his raw point/goal finishes. You even replied to the post where I addressed this exact thing. Did you forget about it in the 10 seconds it took you to write this incredibly detailed and thoughtful response?

Crosby having surgery does not make anything irrelevant. His season this year was worse than Ovi's 71 point season. I already gave him the benefit of the doubt by using per game metrics.

NEXT (lol).

No way was it better than his 17-18 lol
I know it might be hard to fathom, but providing some type of substantive argument usually works better than just saying "No way". Regardless, 1st in goals and 15th in points > 10th in points and 33rd in goals.

Debateable. But it's funny that it takes Sid coming off a hernia surgery at the age of 33 to possibly be worse than Ovi's 71 pt season when he was in his 20's

100%. His 71 point season was actually a quite strong season.

Even his 2011/2012 of 38 goals and 65 points = 37th in points and 5th in goals. Yeah it's not top of the line outstanding, but still one of the best forwards in the league that year lol.

His 2016/2017 of 33 goals and 69 points = 20th in points and 13th in goals.

People with no interest in actually doing research would see that those numbers just look bad due to the scoring environment. 20th and 37th in points in 2018/2019 were 84 and 75 points respectively. 5th and 13th in goals in 2018/2019 were 44 and 40 goals respectively.

It's funny how he gets shit on for those seasons, but still put up 38 goals (something Crosby has only eclipsed 3x in his career) and 33 goals (something Crosby has only eclipsed 8x in his career)

It's not about comparing ages of anything. It's that people like you have no problem calling that season shit, but when you actually look into it, it was still better than a season like Crosby's 17/18 or his 19/20, but you won't find a single person shitting on Crosby for either of those 2 seasons (hint, because they were still great seasons).

And if you really want to make this about age lol, Ovechkin's 71 point season was in his 30 year-old season, and the 2 seasons I have compared it to were Crosby's 30 and 32 year old seasons lol. So not sure why you even brought that up. If you want to bring up age into anything, Ovechkin just had his 34 year old season and won the rocket, meanwhile a 30 and 32 year old Crosby was still having issues cracking the top 30.

Ovi had a 65 pt season in 2011-2012, in his prime. Sid cracked 100 pts in 2018-19 at 32 years old, funny how you leave that one out. Ovi hasn't hit 100pts since 2009-2010.

That was a weird season for Ovechkin. He had only 6 primary assists all year, which is unheard of for a player of his talent and ice time (Jay Beagle had 5 that season in 57 games), but all his underlying numbers suggest it was one of his better years since his peak in terms of driving goals for percentage. Sometimes anomalies happen. But this is also true for Sid's 17-18, where his 5v5 on-ice shooting percentage was abnormally low but his possession numbers were as good as ever. Play those seasons over again 100 times and more often than not they both probably score 10ish more points.

The only reason it's better than Crosby's 19-20 is games played lol. You cannot sit there and give Sid flack for scoring 47 points in 41 games which is a 90+ point pace while ovechkin has struggled to Even hit a ppg since he was 26. He's either below it. Right on it see 14-15 and 13-14. His 11-12 season is absolutely not elite and one of the worst seasons any megastar player has ever had healthy in their primes. Crosby only played 22 games in.11-12 and had 37 points while ovechkin had 65 in 78. Crosby was far better that year as well
