Even this year I’d easily take Crosby. I’m not fooled by Ovechkins goal total. He has been a trigger man since 2011. Nothing more. The fact that Crosby outscored him every season and has a far superior all around game is enough

He's so much more than just a triggerman. Even though Sid is more versatile player Ovechkin is not Patrik Laine.

During that span (08, 09, '10 playoffs):

Ovechkin was 1.43 PPG and .71 GPG.

Crosby was 1.35 PPG and .47 GPG.

These numbers are nearly identical to the regular season per game stats from that same time period.

Ovechkin was just plain better. And it wasn't close.

You're not going to acknowledge the clear difference in environment or competition? Fairly sure I won't find any post going through your post history slamming Crosby's PPG for playing partials, yet you're going to argue for Ovechkin based on PPG alone using 1st/2nd round matchups versus Crosby's multiple deep runs? It is obvious scoring drops the further into the playoffs you go. Ovechkin was still great in the playoffs during this span though.

I feel like some people arent understanding this poll.

Voting never means you expect Ov > Crosby for career points when they both retire
Do 60% of people truly believe that?

Crosby is younger
Crosby is a better point producer than Ov. As they age/decline its probable crosby keeps scoring more points more easily (whereas Ov has more goals vs overall points) and the gap widens.

Crosby will retire earlier.

Will he? I mean it's possible but he's 2 years younger. Are you saying he'll retire younger, or earlier? Earlier means Ovi plays till at least 3 years older then Crosby does.

Also - both are having great years and that 2 years difference maybe isn't showing too much right now but Ovi will likely decline sooner/faster and Crosby would widen the point gap at that time.

Ovi playing in the KHL one day is a possibility too.

I don't see it. Unless one wants to project potential injuries, to me Crosby > Ovi for career points seems like a very obvious guess.

No it is not obvious. Drops only in SCF.
Average Team GPG in PO since 2005:
1st round = 2.69
2nd round = 2.68
CF = 2.76
SCF = 2.53

People still trying to find a way to prove OV is better. LOL

Here is the TSN top 50 rankings from 2010 - 2018 ( I don't believe they did it prior to 2010 )

2018 Crosby #2, Ovechkin #12
2017 Crosby #2, Ovechkin #22
2016 Crosby #1, Ovechkin #8
2015 Crosby #1, Ovechkin #5
2014 Crosby #1, Ovechkin #12
2013 Crosby #1, Ovechkin #7
2012 Crosby #1, Ovechkin #2
2011 Crosby #1, Ovechkin #2
2010 Crosby #1, Ovechkin #2

Give it a rest people, it's always been Sid.
And the fact that he is only a few points behind Ovechkin in 141 less games played, should put this to rest for good.

And as for the original question, Sid may never catch OV in points. But he doesn't have to. He's already cemented himself as the better player.

TSN & Sportsnet are Canadian mouthpieces. Crosby is untouchable from a national legacy standpoint.

No way was he #2 last year that's a riot.

For the poll I'm saying never because I don't see Crosby playing that much longer.

Oh, I'm sorry. You mean the same Jonathan Toews that won 3 Stanley Cups between 2009 and 2015.
Selke winner, Conn Smythe winner Johnathan Toews. Gotcha. Just wanted to make sure we were talking about the same guy.

If you're suggesting that TSN is biased, then I guess you better call out every other list ever made, because you will be pretty hard pressed to find a single list that ranks Ovechkin above Crosby.

That's true too, though the Hart tends to change depending on the year.

FYI, the Hart and Lindsay have lined up 20 times in the past 30 years, 9 times the Lindsay winner was 2nd in Hart voting, and last year McDavid was 5th.

If one wants to look at Hart voting and Lindsay voting, OV and Crosby are very close.

The Hart voting means squat. McDavid was 5th last year even though he was the best player by a significant margin.

Primary points between 2007 and present day:

Ovi: 793 points in 878 games (0.90 primary points per game)

Crosby: 714 points in 738 games (0.97 primary points per game)

2007 is the furthest I can go back without having to manually add things up

One anomaly in 30 years doesn't mean you ignore it completely. It is clear from Hart voting and Lindsay voting that Crosby's point totals are viewed as equal to OV's Rocket wins.

3 pts behind in 141 less played games!!
If he stays healthy, it won't be that long before Sid passes OV in points and will probably also never look back!
