When will Crosby permanently eclipse Ovechkin in total points?

idk, this Q gets asked every year and it still isn't settled yet. it seems like post-cup OV has found a way to produce at a high level alongside his teammates whereas Crosby (still great PPG) seems to not really care for the regular season as much any more. so I have no clue when

After Crosby’s 4 pt game tonight he’s within 4 pts of Ovechkin for career totals.

Those guys are simply counting trophies. I don't think there's anyone even remotely credible thinking that OV's been the better player through their careers. He's been a lot healthier and in fact has more Hart/Lindsay awards than Sid.
But after OV won his cup last season the vast majority of fans simply stopped caring about the comparison. They're both among top-20 (give or take few spots) players to ever hit the ice and will go down as defining players of their generation. No need for dick measuring anymore.

I don't think he's had the better career, but one thing they claim is that you can't just look at their points per game averages and use that as a basis for who's been better without distinguishing between primary and secondary points.
They have a point in that regard, but I'm not one who totally disregards secondary points.

I mean 14/15 is pretty debatable as to who was the better player same thing with 17/18. 18/19 is not even half way over yet and Crosby always gets hot in the second half of the season.

I agree as he is 5 points behind and barring injury he is going to pass him and stay ahead of him forever.
Since the 13-14 season Sid has played exactly 10 less games than Ovechkin so durability isn't really an issue.

17/18 and 18/19 it's even better 2 way play for Crosby with slightly better scoring
Aat best a wash but I think it's a clear edge to Crosby, unless one is in a goal heavy fantasy league.
Ovechkin's never been better at playing hockey than Crosby at any season. Allaround elite centre versus one dimensional winger Crosby with 60 points would be more valuable than Ovechkin with 90 because of overall impact. For example right now there's not one winger in world who is more valuable than any top 10 centre's in NHL or top 5 DMan i would say no winger is top 20 hockey player in NHL right now when counting Centre's Defensemen and goalies, ok maybe Kucherov.

I think it's more that Ovechkin just doesn't get injured than Crosby being "injury prone". 14th season and he's missed more than 4 games once, when he missed 10 games in 2009/10.
