Volbeat might be my favorite contemporary group from the last decade or so.
Very unique sound. It's got elements of pop, rock, metal and country. I was able to see them 3 times in concert and they sounded great.

About a month ago I heard the best of 67-70 on the Beatles channel and have been on it ever since. The changeover in music in the few years between 64-67 is remarkable.

Mr. Blue Sky- Electric Light Orchestra
Assorted Christmas Music (I lumped this all into one)

Basically a mix of rock, classic rock, alternative, and some country for me.

I have seen KC exactly 22 times. Spanning from 1972-2011. Many incarnations of "the project" as Fripp aptly names the KC effort. I would love to see them again one day.
You are lucky to have gotten that close!
I have held onto Ian McDonald's flutes and asked him to bring them with him before we deconstructed his platform. He was just like "Oh...yeah. I should take those. Mhmmm."

One night I also had to load-in/load-out Steve Hackett and at the end of the night, in the middle of load-out, him and his wife stopped by and wished us a wonderful night with the biggest smile ever. Also got to meet Chris Squire (RIP) when YES was in town.

I listen to all kinds of music and I felt 2018 was a very mixed bad. The older bands I like put out "ok' or "whatever" albums where if 2-3 songs make my workout mix I'll take it. The exception was Judas Priest as that new album was really good.

Australia provided some real gems. I discovered Hiatus Kaiyote which is like a soul/funk/jazz/at times rock band with one of if not the best singers I've heard in years (who put out a solo record in 2017). They have a new album which should be out next year. Easily the closest band in terms of content and excitement and just "feel" in terms of when all the early 90s alternative bands I grew up on got big They have that energy and creativity that not many new bands have. Caligula's Horse is like proggy/metal. Twelve Foot Ninja keeps the spirit of Mr. Bungle/Dog Fashion Disco alive.

My favorite album of the year is probably Broken Politics by Neneh Cherry who some of the older posters may remember as being big in hip hop in the very late 80s/early 90s.

I also liked the Vein, 156/Silence albums, and Planet B which is a side project of one of the guy's in The Locust on Mike Patton's label.

Older stuff: a lot of 70s Rolling Stones, XTC, Minnie Ripperton.

I’ve seen them three times as well.

Twice on their own — in the states and in Europe, and once as the opening act for Metallica in Philly.

Love the Rockabilly-Speed Metal crossover.

I’m not a huge country fan, but do love some old school outlaw country. That’s actually how I first stumbled upon them - I was looking to see who might be picking up the mantle and they eventually came up as I poked around.

I can listen to just about anything.......except country. My wife loves it, and I tried. But it's just not good. The whole cosplay/dressup that goes along with the concerts is ridiculous to me.

You took a metro north train from Bedford to the Garden, why are you dressed up like a cowgirl?

Oh Man, this is way too true. There's a lot of farming in the surrounding areas of Grande Prairie, and I see so many people that have never stepped foot on a farm, deck themselves out in country cosplay (I'm going to steal the shit out of that term for it, because it's awesome) and prance around like they were birthed on the back of a horse.

I've even seen guys that I grew up with in Newfoundland going to these concerts in cowboy hats and boots... like what are you doing, Dude?

I’m pretty much all over the map prior to 2006. That seems to be where I stopped connecting to most modern music. Right now, I’m in another Beatles phase.

I have a tendency to immerse myself in bands that catch my ear. Over the years, I’ve gotten heavy into everyone from Sinatra to Steeleye Span to the Cowsills to Pat Metheny to the Everly Brothers. I still believe the best pop music was made in the 1960’s

My favorite music is like my favorite books, I go back, revisit, and usually come away with something new.

For example, I was listening to The White Album the other day and thinking about how “I’m so tired” was about 25-30 years ahead of it’s time.

As a kid my mom was really into music, so I was exposed to everything from doo wop to The Beatles, The Stones, The Beach Boys and The Eagles.

As I grew up, my siblings exposed me to everything from New Wave to speed metal. The first time I heard Metallica, it forever changed my trajectory. In my teens and 20s, I loved everything from Alice In Chains to Nine Inch Nails, and most “rock” music in between.

But was always a big fan of the first music I was exposed to. That started a lot of exploration in my 20s, really delving into performers like Jim Croce, Dean Martin, Bob Dylan, etc. Not just the hits, but the flow and composition of albums from start to finish.

Lol, I got my 60+ year old mom into them as well.

A little surreal.

My dad is 67 (you didn't hear that from me) and can't wait to see Slipknot with me.

My parents introduced me to music when I was in middle school by giving me a copy of Abbey Road. From there, I got heavier in my teenage years, and now I'm showing my dad metal.

Still adore the Beatles though.

Still adore the Beatles though.

When my dad was a boy he was a paper boy for Benny Goodman. So he’s always been more into big band and jazz music. My love for that music came from there, but I wouldn’t say my dad is a big music guy.

My mom always loved music and it was usually her tastes in music, food and politics that influenced us the most.

My earliest memories were the Beatles, The Eagles, Billy Joel, Elton John and Frankie Valli. I can remember all of her old records on a shelf. It was like a treasure trove.

My first concert was Elton John on my 10th birthday at MSG. I remember getting my first Walkman when I was 8, along with a tape of Master of Puppets. Needless to say, my tastes have always been eclectic.

Wow, my bass hero along with Geddy. Was just recently listening to Fish out of Water. Also been listening to Greta Van Fleet imitate Zep, some Tull, Rush and early Queen.

The Beatles were my first love and have never left me. I started getting into hard rock in high school, which mutated into the NWOBHM stuff like Maiden, but never got into thrash, as I starting getting into college and modern rock when I went to college surprisingly enough. The grunge fad kind of put a damper on ‘alternative music’ for me, so in the 90’s I drifted toward alternative country/Americana/No Depression music, which led to a full embrace of classic country, which was everything from Hank Williams to Merle Haggard to the Louvin Brothers to George Jones. Most country music after the ‘70’s either bores me or makes me cringe, unless it’s someone like Dwight Yoakam or Randy Travis.

Tweedy is a great song writer and the band is amazingly tight. Their range of covers is wide and cool, from And Your Bird Can Sing by the Beatles to Cowboy Song by Thin Lizzy to Any Major Dude by Steely Dan.

Just getting into Wilco recently myself since I moved to Chicago, the range of covers is indeed impressive
