MacDonald for Nikitin is something I could see happening.

But instead of picking up Stallberg who we really don't need with Raffl around, include Vinny with ~$1.5m retained in the trade to Arizona.

It's a warm weather, American city where he would get significant playing time. If he heard what Hextall said he must know his lack of ice time in Philly was not just cause Berube didn't like him.

What's the cost of trading from 15-20 to 7 overall? An extra second would be cool.

It gets rid of a bunch of money to be used towards new contracts for Couturier, Schenn and Voracek. I choose to stay out of free agency as there isn't much of note this season. The defense still isn't very good, but it isn't as bad as this season. The forwards should be able to get the job done.

I like this because I agree with you, we should not try to sign any major UFAs. There is nothing there that will help us out substantially. We need to get out of Cap Hell ASAP, not add to it.

Trading back from 7th to 15-20 would be stupid as hell. A 2nd isn't nearly worth the drop in talent.

Never said the cost would be a 2nd straight up. Think it's a bit unfair to dismiss the suggestion so harshly. Under no circumstance would you consider trading down that far in a deep draft?

Getting out of cap hell is not removing free agents from the equation all together. You just have to be reasonable and sign players that fit your scheme or how the team is run. Players that are effective everywhere are also players you look into. Sekera would be a major upgrade on our team and much needed puck mover on our defense. If you can trade 2-3 of the current group, you have to consider trading for him. If you can sign Beauchemin the same applies, he would fit in here in our top 4 right from the start. Both would be quality signings but it comes at a price. Hextall has to have a limit where Homer never did. He wouldn't stop until he had his guy, worry about the consequences later.

The draft is pretty top heavy, we'd be getting a much better player at 7 than we would at 15-20 so getting another minor piece with that lesser player isn't enough for me. I want the best player possible, not multiple lesser ones.

It doesn't take us out completely but it pretty much takes us out of contention for the top guys like Sekera & Beauchemin. This free agent class is putrid making the top guy's value even higher.

It's highly unlikely MacDonald is going anywhere while Schenn & Grossmann can be moved we need still need their cap space to sign our guys. The Flyers really didn't gain much capspace back with the Coburn trade. It was mostly all negated with players getting extensions & Gudas coming back the other way.

I dont know why everyone exclude Morin, Hagg, Sanheim or Gost in their 2015-2016 lineup. I suspect at least 2 of them could make the team. If the Flyers sign Zaitsev that would be 3 new D so that means Grossmann and Macdonald are out.

Schenn I dont care if he is coming back, he is not worse then Grossmann or Macdonald.

MDZ-Streit
Morin-Zaitsev
Gost-Gudas/Schenn (could switch them till you find who is better)
Shultz

Look at Tampa bay, Yzeman is not afraid of bringing young players, even in the 6th game of a playoff serie. Just go and stack up on draft pick in 2015 and bring 2 of our 4 young D to the lineup. If you can add a 3rd and a 4th for Grossmann, Macdonald go for it.

In front I really think Couturier can be a 2nd line center 50-60 points with Schenn and Simmonds. We just have to found a LW for giroux and Voracek and if we pick Crouse then its Bingo !!!

I know we would not make a splash in the playoff and maybe not even do them but at least were young, talented without cap issues and ready to take on 2016-2017 !!!

Little extra: get rid off Lecavalier and a 4th for a 6th to Arizona and sign Babcock.

I highly doubt Hextall throws three rookies into the lineup next year at least not for the full year.

I also highly doubt MacDonald is going anywhere as I don't think Hextall's gonna want to add a value piece to get rid of him & contract right now.

This is the textbook for what we all generally want to happen. Executing those deals is another matter. I'd say that one spot in the line-up should be kept for the cap dump coming back in the Lecavalier deal, because he isn't going anywhere without Hextall either adding value or taking back a not-as-bad-but-still-bad contract.

And just nitpicking, but why not White as 4C? I'd trust him with defensive-zone draws. He was 52.9% in limited (123) faceoffs and 50.8% in 388 chances for Montreal the year before.

I think acquiring an impact D that would make us a threat sooner than later would be ideal. No clue how this would come though. Beauchemin, Seabrook, Sekera, etc. Someone to help ease the transition of our young guys as well as be a part of the future.

The fourth line to me was really interchangeable in positions since they are all centers. I just threw them in in any order. White can be on draws and Bellemare on the wing. Either works and we would have a solid 4th line.

I would like Beauchemin, he's still solid. The problem with him and Sekera though is that they are the top of the free agent D class and will cost more than what they are worth. I don't think it is worth it to grab them when we can potentially start filling holes with the kids on D.

I like White on the wing better when the play is actually happening. I think he's a better forechecker than he is defensively (not to say he's bad there). He's a guy who likes to piss the opposing team off & does a good job at it which you kind of lose when you slot him in the center spot as he takes on more responsibility especially on the defensive side.

Steve Ott used to pretty much be a face off specialist who primarily played the wing. He'd take key defensive draws then slide back to the wing during the play. You could use White in that type of role.

I'm all for trading down, but not as far as the 15-20 range. I really believe that we could get a really nice return for Colorado if Provorov is still available, and picking at their spot still gets us a chance at drafting one of Zacha/Crouse/Rant/Werenski/Barzal.
Trading lower then 10/11 doesn't make sense IMO. And I don't see any other team that would be willing to trade up as Colorado. They need defense desperately, the other teams don't have such glaring needs i think, and could go either way with their picks.
