The price on Oshie is probably too high. I'd be interested but I don't even know what I'd be willing to give up. Probably not what the Blues want. Maybe out 2nd first and a lesser prospect.

Has Oshie played anything other then RW ever? Where does he fit? If we are trading for a forward from the Blues I'd rather go after Steen or Backes. Schwartz I'm assuming is totally untouchable

C or RW, mainly RW though. The only thing that makes sense is Read+

I'd easily do a + of Umberger, Grossmann, MacDonald, Lecavalier, etc

edit: Oshie is easily one of my favorite players in the league. Has been before the '14 Olys...but I have no interest in overpaying for him.

Steen and Backes are both 3 years older and have higher cap hits than Oshie. I suspect the Blues would want more for Steen, as well. As for where he fits, I'm not sure.

Raffl - Giroux - Voracek
Schenn - Couturier - Oshie

Maybe Schenn could try LW again. I don't know. Maybe Oshie can play LW.

Some kind of Backes+Oshie for Read+xxx+29/2015+Hägg

Makes no sense for the Flyers or Blues for that matter as they're both looking for the same thing (younger players on cheap contracts). The Blues could get better returns around the league than that too if they move Backes & Oshie.

Backes literally makes zero sense for the Flyers given he's a 31 year old center who's entering the last year of his current contract.

Hey guys!
Wild fan in peace :).

So I've been wondering if the Flyers would consider trading Brayden Schenn. Granted, I know just the basics about the buildup of your team, and that your center depth (at first glance) appears to be relatively solid. With Giroux, Laughton, Couterier, Lecavalier, and Schenn... it would appear (again, at first glance) that you could afford to trade a center. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

However, if I were you guys, I'd probably look to offload Lecavalier first before Schenn. So maybe I'm wasting my time in asking :).
Just looking for some information, thank you very much!

We would definitely unload Schenn in the right deal but cant take back a big contract and arent looking for aging veterans. Any ideas?

Hmmmm, well I DO know this:

Jared Spurgeon (RD) is available, but he is an RFA after the 15-16 season, so you'd have to worry about an extension.

I realize this is pretty similar to Schenn as, if he were traded, the team he would be traded to would also have to worry about an extension. Spurgeon's current cap hit is 2.667 and I believe Schenn's is 2.5? So the cap hits cancel each other out.

However, and this is strictly IMO, I don't think Spurgeon alone gets Schenn (other Wild fans may disagree, but whatever ).

Could a deal be had centered around these two? I'm thinking maybe we add our 2nd this year (as our GM has been infatuated with trading our 2nds for other years for poor TDL acquisitions, but I digress...).

I've thought about MAYBE adding Coyle to the mix too, but then you may be taking on too much salary, and that point, I think we'd be paying too much for Schenn. What's your thoughts :)?

All the stats show that Spurgeon makes the team significantly better while he's on the ice. Why would you want to trade him?

Because he is a chip we have that could improve our center depth, which we desperately need. Koivu is aging at a much faster rate than expected, and frankly, has become no more than a defensive face-off specialist. It's such a shame to watch, but he really is our third line center (whether people will admit it or not).

The real problem is we can neither afford, nor trade, for a legitimate first line Center (like a Giroux), so we would prefer to acquire solid, young centers with some potential to improve (like Granlund).

What makes Spurgeon expendable (although with some risk) is Dumba. Not only is Dumba cheaper, he has many of the offensive elements that Spurgeon has and really showed glimpses stardom in the last half of our season.

Add all this to the fact that we have to extend Dubnyk (or another goalie), Granlund, AND Spurgeon, and we have a relatively serious cap crunch we're facing. We're not happy with such a significant portion of our cap being sucked up between Koivu, Vanek, and Pominville. But I don't see any team taking on those players (and respective contracts) especially for a young center or forward.

I'd love for Hextall to grab Galchenyuk if his relationship with Montreal continues to sour. He seems like a perfect fit.

I wouldn't want him straight up for Schenn, but I've always had a soft spot for Dumba. :D

Gonna try something here,

Grossmann for a 3rd round pick.

Luke, Brayden, and said 3rd round pick to Avs for ROR.

Semin ($2.0m retained) for Vinny.

5th rounder for the rights to Gustavsson

Draft, Ivan Provorov and Mackenzie Blackwood.

Sign Thomas Raffl

Semin - Giroux - Voracek
O'Reilly - Couturier - Simmonds
Umberger - Laughton - Read
M.Raffl - Bellemare - T.Raffl
Rinaldo

Streit - MacDonald
DelZotto - Schultz
Provorov - Medvedev
Gudas

Mason
Gustavsson

I think all of these moves make us better. Sets up a nice top 6 of the future, and a 4th line of speedy and talented Euros that can stay cost controlled, playing their natural positions with clear defined roles who can play a very good defensive game. (VV and White are UFA as well.) Last time I checked, the Flyers were in talks with Thomas Raffl via an Austrian newspaper.

Semin will find his mojo again with G and V, with their elite playmaking and puck carrying skills.

We still have Umberger and MacD, but I believe the latter will bring back his game. Maybe even Umby will to, due to his apparent foot injury he played through a majority of the season. Our bottom 6 will have no problem playing well defensively, and neither will our 2nd line with Couturier and ROR tbh.

You just tied up ~12 million on 2 players. Voracek and Couturier need extensions

No way I touch anything like that. You just killed all cap flexibility Hextall has been moving to obtain.

I genuinely believe trading Matt Read is a mistake. He had 1 down year, is still young, and if he goes back to being the guy from years before, is probably a bargain of a contract.

Why are we trading 1of only 2 of our decent LW's for a RW that we don't need?

What's the point of giving up two decent picks for a backup when one can be signed on the market?
