I also agree it was a bad offer. But if a team is taking on Kopitar, Doughty, and Quick that’s like what 25 million. A contract like Lucic likely goes the other way. It’s a ludicrous idea to begin with.

Also, If they Kings ever move off Kopitar or Doughty it’s because they are going full rebuild. Rebuilding teams often take bad contracts to increase the quality of the pick or prospects coming their way.

Just curious. I think if I was the Kings I would be open to shopping them even if its for top picks and to get up in the draft. I see a lot of teams lining up for this trio if offered.

if a team needs those pieces , they arent a contender.
If they can afford those pieces, then they are likely rebuilding and this makes no sense to them.

If we "threw in" Jeff Skinner that's about 20 million going to LA both ways and 26 million coming back to Buffalo, but we do have a bunch of free agents.

Doughty 20%? = Valimaki + 1st 20 + Ryan + 3rd 22 + 3rd 23(but i doubt he'd want to come here)

Those offers for Kopitar and Valimaki are bad for LA. I think the Quick one is bad for Calgary but I really like Yelesin.

The Quick one is likely the closest in value as LA is eating 50%. JQ has been pretty good this year outside of the first month of the year, and would be a bargain at 50%. That said LA is running with Petersen Quick.

1) Kopitar's contract is not a hindrance, just like taveres is not as well
2) Quick's in no longer long term. He has been good this year (not elite) when you remove the first month of the year.

actually the NHL is a "hard" Salary cap league,
$26.8 M/year is a hard nut to swallow, even @13.4 if LAK were to retain the max 50% across all 3 contracts

Kopitar will be 35 next year with 4 seasons remaining at $10M/year Cap hit
and Quick will be 35 midseason with 3 years to go
Doughty, at recently 30, is the only one who could be seen as still near his prime and worth the Cap Hit

so best approach for Kings, to maximize return, may be sell them separately and retain on the older guys
