Having a replacement in the system in 2 years would've been perfect, a high scoring winger like Guenther maybe would've fit.

If Pods can play left wing he's a suitable replacement. Much better than relying on a rookie to play first line wing.

JT will have a great year this year and it'll be extremely hard to come to terms with trading him after, but it's likely what we have to do.

His versatility is invaluable (as shown by when Pettersson when down with injury last season and he filled his role), and he can play and patch up so many roster holes (1st LW, 1st C, 1st PP play-maker/ shooter, skilled in draws, shootout... some pencil him as a 3rd line matchup C but I'm not personally of that camp). All that before mentioning that he's a leader in that he often speaks up for (e.g. during the short stretch when the Canucks played every day for several days in a row to make up for team quarantine time, and he said no to the league and they re-scheduled some games) and fires up his teammates.

In short, I think he brings what guys like Max Domi and Sam Bennett were/ are projected to become at least play-style wise (versatile, aggressive types) and his value is that he's not just a "jack of all trades, master of none" but he's good at multiple things.
