In 720 games between the 71-72 season, the Habs won by 3 or more goals 267 times. By 2 or more goals 373 times.

In 720 games between 79-80 and 87-88, the Oilers won by 3 or more games 227 times. By 2 or more goals 328 times.

It was closer than I thought, but there is absolutely no doubt left. The Habs were involved in more blow-outs than the Oilers. If you want the excel sheets, I can e-mail them.

No you didnt state HOW MANY 2 goal games or 3 goal games each team had. Dont play me for a jackass because I just happen to disagree with you.

I did now. There is no disagreeing with cold, hard facts.

Go ahead and check the results for yourself.

Oh yeah what an idiot. You put the 81-82 where Oilers only played in 5 games losing to the kings so that the numbers will work in your favor. And that's not trying to find a way to work in your favor :shakehead

You just called me an idiot. That's not very polite of you. By the way what the Hell are you talking about?? I didn't put anything about 81-82. Straighten up your posters, bub.

This is what you said.

Alright, the '74-75 - '79-80 Habs vs the '81-82 - '86-87 Oilers

Go look in the playoffs bud. I'm not talking about regular season.

But you were before.

You only switched the context to play-offs when you got your butt kicked. It is called backtracking.

Isn't that the very 6 season gap you've been screaming about for 10 pages now?

Not sure I understand, but please clarify?? Are you now using the number of goals scored in a game to try and prove something?? The Oilers won more 8-6 games than the Habs?? So what?? :dunno: A game isn't necessarily a blowout because a team scored 3 or more goals. Are you just going to keep bringing up useless stats until you think you've convinced us the world is flat???

I wonder if Lefleur has got more puck poise than Gretzky?

It looks like a few of us had the same idea, but since it took me a long time ( no excel), I`ll post what I found anyways.

For Lafleur`s three scoring title years ( his 5th, 6th and 7th seasons):

1975-76-- Montreal 58 wins

15 by 1 goal
13 by 2 goals
7 by 3 goals
7 by 4 goals
16 by 5+ goals (6x5, 8x6, 1x7, 1x9)
average margin of victory- 3.17 goals

1976-77-- Montreal 60 wins

9 by 1 goal
11 by 2 goals
10 by 3 goals
8 by 4 goals
22(!!) by 5+ goals ( 5x5, 8x6, 5x7, 2x8, 1x9, 1x11)
average margin of victory- 3.95 goals

1977-78-- Montreal 59 wins

7 by 1 goal
16 by 2 goals
11 by 3 goals
13 by 4 goals
12 by 5+ goals (5x5, 4x6, 2x7, 1x8)
average margin of victory- 3.31 goals

Gretzky`s 5th, 6th and 7th seasons:

1983-84-- Edmonton 57 wins

13 by 1 goal
12 by 2 goals
11 by 3 goals
8 by 4 goals
13 by 5+ goals (5x5, 4x7, 2x8, 1x9, 1x10)
average margin of victory- 3.33 goals

1984-85-- Edmonton 49 wins

9 by 1 goal
16 by 2 goals
9 by 3 goals
5 by 4 goals
10 by 5+ goals ( 3x5, 4x6, 3x7)
average margin of victory- 3.02

1985-86-- Edmonton 56 wins

17 by 1 goal
11 by 2 goals
12 by 3 goals
8 by 4 goals
8 by 5 goals ( 3x5, 3x6, 1x9, 1x13(!))
average margin of victory- 2.89

:biglaugh: That's pretty funny

But still, if you look at a 20 game sample in 1975 and compare it the last 5 years of Gretzky's career, and then take the games were Lafleur had hat tricks, and then pro rate it over 10 years, Lafleur has better stats. Therefore, by using choochian numbers, I have just proven that Lafleur is better. Logic? Bah, who needs that, I'll just put a bunch of numbers, chosen at my discretion to prove my point.

Also, if you pick 4 seasons where Gretzky was a minus he is a minus for his whole career, I mean for a few year's I mean he's floater, I mean...I keep changing my story.

And don't even try with puck poise. Lafeur's puck poise >>>>>> Waye's puck poise.

In all seriousness, if Lafleur was close as that close to Gretzky, people would have no problem comparing Esposito to Gretzky right? Or Messier to Gretzky right?

I challenge someone to try that. Start a threat comparing Esposito to Gretzky and use the same type of arguments that were used here and see if you get flamed. That's what this Lafleur comparison looks like. So once again, for x time, Lafleur was great, Top 15 player of ALL TIME, but he's nowhere near Gretzky. Hell even Bobby Hull, Rocket Richard are remembered as absolute greats and are usually around 5-10 and even they don't compare to Gretzky.

You may wish to check your eyeglasses prescription or something, given that I haven't BEEN TAKING PART IN YOUR SILLY TROPHY COUNTING, ETC. It's very hard for me to understand what you are raving about, since I haven't posted any Steve Eurkelesque statistics. Argue the merit of statistic with those who posted them. Somewhere in the midst of your 99 posts in this thread I am afraid you have a) forgotten what you were posting about b) Lost touch with who you are arguing with, because you're arguing with the wrong person. I didn't need to use any new statistics to show that your hypothesis that more goals scored equals more blowouts is silly. How close a game is is not differentiated between 3-1 and 9-7. In fact, one might argue that the 9-7 would be the closer of the two.

I guess the new pope didn't hear my plea to pray for an end this silly, silly thread.
