This is the lineup I have saved in wordpad..

Nyquist - Datsyuk - Horton
Brunner - Zetterberg - Franzen
Tatar - Helm - Abdelkader
Miller - Andersson - Eaves

Kronwall - Ericsson
DeKeyser - Smith
Colaiacovo - Kindl

Howard
Gustavsson

Crazy how similar ours is haha, I think we'll hold on to Cola as a 6th though

So...

Bertuzzi, Samuelsson, and Quincey are all out of the lineup. You realize that you can only buy out two players, right?

if the Wings let Brunner go if he wants something like 3.5m it'd be incredibly dumb. Considering his production next season will likely match Clarkson or Horton.

What was your opinion on Hudler again? He was 28 and had just scored 25-25-50 (his second 50+ season in his past three NHL seasons) in his first year in the top-six. Most fans here thought he was overpaid at $4m (and many still do, even after another season on pace for 50+).

Iginla is the best FA on the market IMO. 2-3 years of Iginla is much better than 5-6 years of Horton or Clarkson IMO.

Iginla is not the best FA on the market. He was terrible most of the year in Calgary. It's debatable as to whether he was even one of their six best forwards.

That would be pretty dumb on Holland part to just resign Lashoff to a 3 year one way deal and then put him on waivers, Most likely Lashoff is our 7th Dman and Colaiacovo will hit the road.

Lashoff was signed because he is young and showed that he could potentially develop into something more. If he can't beat out Colaiacovo for the #7 spot, he'll probably be traded or waived.

Blows my mind Briere has 109 playoff points but no Cup

Here is a list of players with 100+ career points who have never won the Cup (ordered by PPG, HHOFers in bold, players who have never been to the finals underlined):

Player|GP|Pts|PPG
G.Perreault |90|103|1.14
Federko |91|101|1.11
Briere|108|109|1.01
Nicholls |118|114|0.97
Oates |163|156|0.96
Propp|160|148|0.93
Janney|120|110|0.92

Don't cry brah, Nyquist and Tatar did just fine this year on Andersson's wings.

Give all 3 of them top 6 minutes next year (Jurco, Sheahan, Nyquist) and Nyquist will out-produce the other 2 by a big gap. Don't know what you see from Sheahan to think he's top 6 material in the NHL right now, but maybe if you keep saying it then it will make it true ;)

Andersson was legit, plenty of reason to think Sheahan and Jurco will be with the big club.

He played good. He's nothing special though. If Helm is healthy he will be our 4th line center if he's lucky and we waive Emmerton.

Do you know how many forwards we have under contract? That would be all the reasons you need to know that Sheahan and Jurco won't be with the big club. Whether you like it or not. And 1/3 of a good season doesn't mean they should be either.

Quincey isn't out. He's a 7th. Plays when someone's injured or someone needs to be taken out for poor play.

What do I want to see this off-season?

I want to see the Wings get bigger and scrappier by signing one of: Iginla, Horton, or Pascal Dupuis.

People tried last year to convince me that Andersson wasn't an NHL player. You are fully entitled to your opinion; I'm simply stating mine. It's totally fine with me if you disagree. It doesn't hurt my feelings in the slightest.

I was under the impression that compliance buy-outs can only be used on players making 3M or above a year. Is that correct? I keep seeing beat writers mentioning the Wings possible buying out Bertuzzi. Thought he didn't make enough to be eligible.

The 3M or above # was for accelerated buyouts like the ones Gomez and Redden received. Once the off-season begins compliance buyouts can be used on anyone.

? :amazed:

That would have to be Bickel, Torres, Clarkson, Macarther, maybe Penner. Horton isnt scrappier, hes a big, skilled goal scoring winger.

Horton and Bickell are the only 2 that interest me and both will be far over paid. We also see Bickell cooling off and coming back to earth against Boston. Abdelkader can fill that role but Bickell some seem more skilled and has a good shot.

Briere is kind of player Holland will definitely have interest. Short-term deal, then fit to open spot for Jurco/Frk after few years.

That 50+59=109 playoff points in 108 games if freaking impressive. :amazed:

Not that +/- tells everything but somehow, Briere has managed to be minus player during that stretch.

He started to suck 11-12 reg. season but brought it in during postseason.. well, offensively.

But this past reg. season was just bad.

I wouldn't mind him, but it would had to be short term and he would be one of my last choices.

Bickell reminds me a lot of Cleary more that I watch him. He's an awful skater and plays on the perimeter too much, might be the system, but I don't like it.

Holland did the most important thing he had to do all off-season today. Not that I expect a lot of people to back off of him, but worth pointing out and a big :handclap: to Kenny.

So signing your own impending UFA who happens to be a top 10 player is a good thing. That's your strong take? That's pretty funny. Pavs has played his entire career in Detroit and said he wanted to extend his contract. I'm pretty even-handed when it comes to criticism of Holland but wow are you bringing the analysis strong when you say it was good that Ken Holland signed his own player - one of the best players in the NHL - to a new contract.

WELL DONE!!!!!!!! :sarcasm:

I think this is my first time playing GM this year, so this is what I came up with. It essentially undoes every signing Holland did last off-season except for Gustavsson.

Forwards
Jarome Iginla ($5.500m) / Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Gustav Nyquist ($1.500m)
Damien Brunner ($2.750m) / Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Johan Franzen ($3.955m)
Tomas Tatar ($0.840m) / Darren Helm ($2.125m) / Justin Abdelkader ($1.800m)
Danny Cleary ($2.000m) / Joakim Andersson ($1.000m) / Drew Miller ($1.350m)
Patrick Eaves ($1.200m) / Todd Bertuzzi ($2.075m)

Defenseman
Niklas Kronwall ($4.750m) / Jonathan Ericsson ($3.250m)
Danny DeKeyser ($1.350m) / Jakub Kindl ($2.250m)
Kyle Quincey ($3.775m) / Brendan Smith ($1.800m)
Brian Lashoff ($0.725m)

Goalies
Jimmy Howard ($5.292m)
Jonas Gustavsson ($1.500m)

Waived/bought out/traded
Jordin Tootoo
Mikael Samuelsson
Carlo Colaiacovo

and although my math isn't exact, the total salary would be roughly: $63,570,000, so under the cap.

Really no need for that and don't pretend people wouldn't have lined up to hate on him if Datsyuk went back to Russia. Part of the culture he created is the reason Pavel is staying.

Was signing Datsyuk not his most important task of the summer? I think it was, congrats for attacking the poster.
