last season the Habs defense scored 23 goals (Subban 6, Markov 5, Petry 5, Beaulieu 2, Barberio 2, Pateryn 1, Gilbert 1, Dietz 1, Emelin 0, Hanley 0, Ellis 0, Bartley 0, Tinordi 0, Johnston 0, Lernout 0) Weber had 20 goals.

Here's the goal leaders in the NHL for defensemen last year,

Burns 27
Giordano/OEL 21
Weber 20

Subban was tied at 51st in the league.

Yes because the only way a defenseman can contribute to a team is by scoring goals :help:

Weber is waaaaaaay slower than PK.

Shia Weber was -7
PK was +4

And Habs was the worst team in the NHL last season...

PK told the world his job wasn't to score goals.

Big boost for our DCorps.

The only thing Weber has going for him is a better slapshot. I do think that PK's shot accuracy and power has regressed a little bit. Other than that, PK is the better player in all other facets of the game.

Weber is owned 54M and has a cap hit of 7,857,143. He's had 58 goals the past 3 seasons or 19 per year on ave.

He's owed less than that. I believe $41M. His contract was heavily front loaded. Habs save $6M over contract versus PK but add a lot more years.

But also without any clauses which makes it easily tradeable when the time comes

He will be moved to a cap floor team for the last 4 years of his contract.

What I'm curious about is, how does he feel about coming to Montreal? I'd be a lot more happy about this deal if he had a NTC to waive to come here.

Weber is a fantastic player and will make a great contribution to the Habs. Problem is we traded a better player to get him.

Weber is going to get absolutely devoured by Habs fans because its going to be very hard to separate who he is as a player from what he took away from the fanbase.

This.
