The middle of their defense blows. Franklin struggled to recruit the DT & LB positions until this past cycle. Their DC sends the most predictable blitzes all the time too.

They had to move one of the best pass rushers in the country in Micah Parsons from the last cycle to LB because they didn’t really have much in place.

the retirements due to injury of productive upperclassmen also hurt, but yeah...jan johnson cam brown and koa farmer isnt a good enough linebacking core to be a good defense.

Biggest issue with Penn State's defense is they don't create negative plays or turnovers. College defenses are going concede yards and points but you have to create big plays.

well this game is over now. slade with a long touch down run. it was nice to see a penn state oline actually generate push against a b1g opponent regardless of how good illinois is. even when barkley was putting up huge numbers, the line really wasnt getting a push down field.

As Illini fans you just always expect to go backwards and any sign of progress to be mirage

Look at Ron Turner's 2001 season as example

+ We were sold huge load of BS about how Ron Zook was a great program altering catch by Illinois. The guy proved to be far from amazing

Program only legit moment of being big player on national stage was when John Mackovic came and we had George at QB

What do you want the NCAA to do? Rosters are too young & transfers happen more frequent now than it used to be to pass up the game reps.

More like reps are so limited during the week since teams are only allowed 20 hours of practice per game week.

Penn state only threw the ball 20 times. It's not running up the score if the other team can't stop u from running the ball.

Daniels and St. Brown are going to be good, but as always, one has to hope the defense is good one of the next two seasons too. For years it hasn't been the case that both units were relatively equal.
