That's a 100 point pace. Not easy, but not elite or anything. If they play to their ability they can absolutely do it.

Hahaaha! Are you serious with that? That's delusional.

Last year only 9 teams hit 100 points. They'd have to flip a switch INSTANTLY & become a top-10 team starting tomorrow night.

This team's "ability", even with a decent coach, is not 100 points.

THIS SEASON IS OVER. This is a deceased parrot!

Accept reality and begin your Kubler-Ross journey.

We started 0-4-2. How many teams played at a 100 point pace if you take out their worst six game stretch? I'd guess half the league. They can do it.

They could do it if they had a quality coach and stopped playing AHL players consistently in the lineup, and maybe if Hall gave a shit

Silver linings:

1. Hughes put on a show. The Calgary fans got their money’s worth. Even if the Monaghan goal was a blown coverage by him after Hall’s turnover.

2. Blackwood played a great game. Can a goalie be great and let in 5? Watch this tape.

3. Love Boqvist’s physical play.

Big worry going into tomorrow is how bad the power play is looking again. Multiple fiddling around lateral and drop passes trying to enter (when you’ve got Hughes or - another night - Bratt who can make an entry by himself). Then very deliberate and predictable in the end. No traffic in front, no deflections, no play down low, everything on the perimeter trying to set up one timers.

Might want to get some fresh legs in tomorrow. Mueller and Bratt definitely play, Cory also in after the shelling Blackwood took. Don’t know who comes out. Maybe Rooney? Greene or Tennyson to get a rest? Hope for a better effort.

This is still a bad offensive team and it really shouldn’t be.

Breakout stinks. They can’t sustain any pressure and they don’t create nearly enough.

They have to turn around and get 3 out of 4 points to end the road trip at worst. They can’t afford even a two game pointless losing streak right now.

Tough ask with Cory most likely going tomorrow.

Well to put it another way they need 83 points in 68 games to get to 95, which would be borderline for the playoffs. That's fifteen games over for a 68-game stretch after being two under through the first 14 games of an average-ish schedule. And with only one goalie you can trust (at most).

What they really need is a long winning streak to get over .500 and create a situation where every game isn’t must win so early.

Not sure they have it in them. Even when winning that haven’t played all that well and tonight was a massive step backwards in quality of play.

Special teams are still a problem and hard to see that changing with these coaches.

They are too talented to be a bottom 3 team, but not enough talent combined with being really poorly coached to see them putting together a huge streak.

It’s not impossible, but it’s hard to see right now.

Yeah, I mean, they're definitely not going to make the playoffs if they play the way they started the season, not disagreeing there!

Special teams were outstanding the last few games. Every team defends powerplays a little bit differently, and for whatever reason, our style (which I'm not a huge fan of) was totally ineffective against Calgary's mediocre PK. I think sometimes its just rock paper scissors.

We had like 5 stick infraction penalties tonight. Any time you give a team the 6 or 7 power plays Calgary had tonight than you know they will nab atleast one or two goals on them. They dont have to travel to far and should get a decent night rest. It's all about Corey actually playing a solid game and us shutting down McDavid and Drai. Both tasks are easier said than done.

That's the point...they don't have to just play better, they have to play a 'lot' better to go on that kind of run. Even in a best-case we all knew this team would have issues to overcome just to get to the bubble. To do it from a hole...and add to the built-in issues Gusev looking like a complete PP/OT/SO specialist and Hall doing whatever the **** he's doing. Heck they better go on a run soon or they'll be cashing out on Hall anyway.

Is Cory confirmed for tomorrow?

No but after giving up 5 goals tonight I would think he is up for a start. We need to rest Blackwood for Sunday. Schneider needs to have a game where he can atleast give up anything under 3 goals.

I can't wait for the ripping that'll ensue when Cory does play, and people will be like but Blackwood had back to back shutouts of Vancouver at home the last two years, how can you not play him? I mean you got 68 games to go, you can't literally treat every game as if it's a total must-win at this point of the season. If you do Blackwood will be run into the ground by Christmas. Granted we might be totally out of the race with Hall on the block by Christmas anyway...

Didn't it happen a few years ago when we didn't trust Cory or one of our backups or something and we had a goalie play every game including back to back games for months on end? Not saying that should be done here or anything, just wanted to know if I was remembering right.
