Wyatt raised the (accurate) point that in 2011, the Canucks were crucified by the media all over for their chirping and trash talk. With Vegas doing it, everyone loves it. Times change, it seems.

Ehhhh, if Vegas players were insinuating to Horvat that they shagged his wife, the reaction would probably be a bit different.

I love Kesler and Burrows (or used to, in Kesler’s case) but we probably need to be self-aware enough to realize that what they did went into a totally different dimension than this hokey G-rated stuff from Vegas. I mean, ‘little squirt’? It’s what a 12 y/o said to an annoying 7 y/o in 1985. Next we’ll probably hear that someone told Tanev his uniform smelled grody.

We can't outskate them or beat 'em up. But hopefully we can outsmart them with our passing skills.

Hughes will look at video today and see how Vegas keyed on him especially, interfering with his passing lanes. Hope the coaches have a game plan to adjust. I trust that Hughes' intelligence and skill will provide a counter attack.

Canucks were on the ice last night, but they weren't in the game. Vegas provided a cold bucket of water, and hopefully our guys will put up a better effort on Tuesday, win or lose.

I think Kes/Burrows crossed that particular rubicon in 2009 against the Blues. In 2011, the press coverage the Canucks go was so astoundingly negative, and I don't think any crimes that team committed that spring/summer were worthy of the vitriol they got from all of the media outlets. I think that's the point Wyatt was getting at, and I agree with it. The "us vs. the world" mentality that ended up surrounding that 2011 team certainly left a sour taste in my mouth when it came to how the Canucks are talked about by the media.

Game 2 already feels like must win. Or at least must "show that we belong". LOL

Reading through the reviews of the game that we won against Vegas (in OT), I think we won due to Markstrom being lights out while the forwards buried their chances. For this team, that's the only way to win against Vegas. Cannot be whiffing on many 2-on-1's or point blank chances from the slot.

Hoping for a gargantuan statement games from EP and Hughes. Hat trick for EP, Hughes with 1G 3A. Jake gets 3A playing on EP's line the entire game

Aside from that, I disagree that the media acted or acts any different towards the Canucks. It's just all standard victim-mentality stuff from a portion of the fan base and it's too bad media members like Wyatt go along with it. I guess that's what happens when fans become media members.

Welp, we got a dose of reality last night. Throw it in the trash and move on.

I fully expect a much better effort for game 2 or else this could be over before it even starts.

Before everything else, can we even score against vegas...? Let's just get ONE goal as a start would be good.

Canucks need to sit Eriksson now, he's brings absolutely nothing to the table in regards to offence.

Have MacEwen replace him. I stil wish we inserted Bailey into the line up, his size and skating ability will match well against Vegas.

Not a single point in 11 games and zero physicality and zero speed while playing on the 2nd line.

Totally ridiculous. He doesn’t not belong ona 2nd line in the NHL and I agree fully, he needs to come out for MacEwen as we were physically pushed around by Vegas.

I think its time to go back to the Lotto Line.

Vegas doesnt really play a hard matchup game like St Louis did with O'Reily/Pietrangelo

Tofolli coming back would be huge as it would balance out the 2nd line for Horvat.

Dec 15th , Vegas blows out Canucks 6-3

a few days later the Canucks rebound and beat the Knights 5-4 in OT thanks to 2 goals from EP40.

Canucks will bounce back.

Canuck diehards. Great posts. After that rough game I expected a bunch of negativity. Great analysis instead. I also thought the Canucks were fully able to play with Vegas. They are a bloody good team; very well balanced (as you would expect when they got to select 30 journeymen) and tough. I love what we are putting up against them. Let's see what we can bring to game two. (Let's just go with the story that we are just running the odds up so we can break the Vegas casinos)

His play the past 2 seasons warranted demotion to Utica yet he somehow always gets slotted back into the top 6 due to a brief spurt.

This is Benning and the owners refusing to act in fears of looking like chumps...

what? gimme a break with this save face narrative. Eriksson was healthy scratched for like 14 games this shortened season.

Benning, or Coaching Staff have nothing to gain putting Eriksson in the lineup just to save face especially in a make it or break it year for Benning and possibly Green.

Goldobin and Baertschi were both guys that were supposed to take a top 6 role but both suched/injured.

They clearly know that they were in need of top 6 which is why they traded for Tofolli. They arent using Eriksson to save face, they are using him because unfortunately he was what they had in giving them a better chance to win.

Put Horvat with Pettersson and Boeser please. Stop spreading out this paper thin lineup, lets give our top guys a chance to carry the game. Horvat is playing with some confidence, let him play wing and focus on scoring.

Horvat Pettersson Boeser
Pearson Miller Virtanen
Roussel Sutter Gaudette
Motte Beagle Mackewen

I've wanted to see Horvat on a line with Pettersson for a while and he's seemingly the only player on the roster who will never get that spot.

It's not just some "victim mentality". Even the most objective unbiased person could tell you that the Ron MacLean v. Burrows hatchet job on HNIC was both an unprofessional low blow and a major catalyst in making the Canucks so widely disliked. We're talking about a major media figurehead going on national television and using his platform to single out one player's dirty laundry, that's more than just "his share of negative coverage" -- imagine if he did the same for Chara or Thornton or any of the other dozens of dirtbags on that Bruins roster.

You won't find a lot of leftover hate from those days, our team is getting a lot of good attention from the media now, the play of Pettersson and Hughes in this playoffs has been especially captivating and they are lauding it. It also helps having someone like Bieksa on the HNIC panel. But it's insane to dismiss the media coverage from that run as "not different"
