Congrats Caps fans, getting Lavy is a really solid hire. You obviously have a very talented roster and your window is still wide open. Lavy can bring a new excitement to a team like few others can and especially with a short contract like this one, he won't get tuned out like it happened with us.

His salary isn’t particularly noteworthy compared to coaches hired in the past several years. This is less than Vigneault, McLellan, Quenville, etc. Hell, Ralph Krueger is getting $3.9M from Edmonton.

Trotz was hired simultaneously to MacLellan, and he didn’t get to make roster decisions. NHL head coaches aren’t like Bill Bellicheck in the NFL. They may be asked to provide input, but they aren’t the ones making roster choices.

I would not agree with that. He would have to take it seriously before any respect would have any impact.

Didn’t really work out for Kevin Fiala under Laviolette.

(To be clear, Laviolette was still my preferred candidate, but I don’t think any coach is ever going to guarantee the success of young players and I think far too much has been pinned on the previous coaching staff for the development of Vrana)
