Why is everyone getting worked up over a NMC for 1 yr ??

On a one year deal he's not really going to have much keeping him here anyway.

Obviously he's going to go to a place he wants to but we'll get something.

Again, all assuming we aren't in the playoff mix.

Hilarious that the one Twitter rando called this one before all the "experts".

Great signing at perhaps a very slight overpay but it's one year so zero risk really. Can't wait to see how he looks alongside Stu or Norris!

Not a huge fan of this signing. But for 1yr, there's no risk involved.

edit: Although, it could be good if we don't start the season with Batherson.

If the team stays relatively healthy then my expectation is 45 wins. Yes, Tarasenko had a down year but in 21-22 he did have 82 points, a career high. Besides they don't need peak Tarasenko, since they have Timmy, Brady, and Claude leading the way. But the D now having a full season of Chychrun, plus Sanderson a year older, and hopefully the goaltending being decent, I see no reason they can't win 45.

Vladimir's a natural goal scorer," said Senators general manager Pierre Dorion. "He's a dynamic player who can score from anywhere in the offensive zone, as well as an underrated playmaker who's made a career out of driving offence for he and his linemates. An established performer in the regular season and in the playoffs, we're thrilled to add a player of his calibre to our lineup."

Tarasenko is coming off an eight-year, $60-million deal he signed with St. Louis in 2015.

YESSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is a terrific, terrific signing.

One year removed from 34 goals 82 points and 9 points in 12 playoff games.

50 points in 69 games last year and 3 goals in 7 games.

Adding 2 50 point guys who play big body game in substitute of DeBrincat. Just terrific.

If Batherson news is bad, it knocks us down a peg and we will need to sign someone else. As of now, our top 9 forward group is deep enough for a playoff spot without question.

Pretty cool, another summer of Pierre. Still feels like there is a bad shoe to drop yet given the cap situation so holding my breath still.

If things dont go well and the opportunity arose to trade him for a 1st rather than lose him for nothing, giving us another year of three 1sts, that would be cool too.

How does it fit? Which one are we going to send to LTIR?? :D
DJ smith? XD

Talking about DJ. Smith, now he either has a whole season (which will mean it is a success), or just two more months (the infamous November slide) of coaching in Ottawa. Hopefully not in between. Either he makes it work or gets out before December.

Players should start to take some responsibility too. You can't say we are a weak team on paper.

Do we even get cap relief if something happens with Batherson?
Let’s not turn this thread into that discussion…

When players are suspended for on-ice events, this is considered "supplemental discipline" and their cap hit still counts against the cap while they're suspended. When they're suspended for off-ice events, like with Austin Watson (domestic violence) and Nate Schmidt (failed drug test), they do not count against the Cap during their suspension (CBA Section 50.10.c).

wow didn't see that coming, even though there was rumors. I'm a bit worried about the team defensively (like last year) but we could be a powerhouse offensively. I think we should go offense all the way then and see how it goes. Next management/coaching will probably go a different route

I'd put Giroux with the 2 kids, which will help them greatly. Tkachuk-Stutzle and Norris-Batherson are the duos. Tkachuk-Stutzle have to take their game to the next level and carry Tarasenko defensively

Tkachuk - Stützle - Tarasenko
Kubalik - Norris - Batherson
Greig - Pinto - Giroux
Joseph - Kastelic - MacEwen
Kelly

Chabot - Chychrun
Sanderson - Hamonic
Brännström - Zub
JBD

Forsberg
Korpisalo

I love how Dorion is actually batshit crazy. It’s the only thing I like about him. And he’s quite nice

Imagine going with him at the Casino lol

He's more of a name than a very good player at this point, but 1 year is good.

Nice deadline bait.

50 points in 70ish games last year isn't terrible. Over a point per game the year before.

If he can be a 50ish point guy on the second line that's good enough for me. With Kubalik the Sens finally have depth on the wings. I'll take two 40 point guys over Debrincat for this season given the team's lack of scoring punch in the bottom 6.

Just gotta hope that Batherson figures his shit out defensively. Can't be carrying two defensive liabilities in the top 6
