Really depends on where you work. If you'll have the job before moving here let us know and it'll be easier to make recommendations. I'd definitely prefer the south and southwest over Summerlin as far as traffic goes if you do have to work in the central part of town. Going north on the 15 or 95 during rush hour sucks.

Will do, I appreciate it. Traffic is one of two stressors in my life (shopping being the other) so that's a big factor in a move. Hopefully the right opportunity does indeed pop up.

Traffic is not Los Angeles bad here, but there is still a heavy rush hour mess on the freeways. However, the bad/drunk drivers are a huge problem here 24/7. :help:

Hey everyone. I'm coming to Vegas for a couple of nights in October on the bookends of a road trip to the Grand Canyon and Monument Valley, and just happen to be in town for the Frozen Fury game on the 8th, so naturally I had to go and check out the new arena plus cross Vegas off my bucket list.

Look forward to reading more in this thread as my time will be limited in Vegas and will look forward to getting the most out of my stay :)

Cool, enjoy your time here. I might be going to the game on the 8th as well.

I haven't been out to Vegas in YEARS(when I was there, the exterior of the Bellagio was still being worked on), but I can echo Red Rock Canyon as a good place to visit.

Hi,

I'll be coming to town next week for a trade show. Is there anything hockey related worth visiting yet?

Thanks.

You could go check out T-Mobile Arena just to see the place. Outside of that, there's not much. Once the practice facilities are up they'll have restaurants with ice views, but they just broke ground a couple of days ago, so you're a little early.

USA Hockey store opens at Fashion Show likely after you're gone. There's no team store or anything yet since the team doesn't have a name or anything to sell.

Other than that, there's not much to see. I guess you could go get a drink at Brooksy's at the Las Vegas Ice Center and see some youth hockey practices or beer league games.

Thanks. I didn't think there would be much yet but thought I would ask. Maybe next year's trip will be timed about right.

I looked but I didn't see this thread. Sorry for the duplicate.

No worries, I just re-stickied it. You didn't miss it while it was in plain sight or anything.

Hopefully next year we'll have a lot more to see. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy your visit.

Thanks. I thought I checked the stickies first but sometimes you do miss the obvious.

I usually get out to see something while I'm there. I just thought I'd make sure I didn't miss something that might be new and hockey related.

Definitely planning a trip if I don't end up moving to Vegas - so I appreciate the initial advice but I still have a question(s):

Is the strip-area considered the "bad" area of Vegas? Where should I look to be buying a house if I were to be moving there?

Cont..
I'm transitioning out of service early next year and am actively seeking Information Security jobs Vegas pops up semi-frequently due to the AF base and casinos. It's a big draw for me because my hobbies are pretty much hockey, guns, and Jeeps - and now Vegas offers all three!

Locals don't go to the strip, it's for tourists.......so most people don't live near there either.....quite a few condo towers going up near the strip but my guess is that buyers aren't living there fulltime.
I would recommend Summerlyn, West of the loop highway, South Henderson, or Boulder City.

Boulder City is nice but should not be considered a serious option for anyone who doesn't work in or very close to Boulder City. That's a really long drive for someone commuting to the west side of the valley or NLV on a daily basis.

Plus, the town is cute, but very small. It's the type of place where everyone knows everybody else's business. Just sayin...

As someone who lived in Vegas for 15 years and am currently working in San Jose until construction recovers in Vegas. The traffic is Vegas isn't really that bad to get to anywhere in town. You guys are just spoiled lol.

I have worked with several people that commute from Hollister, Gilroy, Tracy or Stockton to San Jose due to the cost of living. Just look up the commutes from there to San Jose it's an hour to couple housr commute at least for those guys.

Yeah, it's been open for a while.

It's kind of hidden in the Dillards end of the mall, but it's there. TBH, there are better places for hockey stuff in Vegas. It's cool that it's a USA Hockey store though, but I'm pretty sure it's just a regular store that licensed the name.

Weird location for a place like that so deep in the mall.

Unless your are in a desperate need of a USA hockey jersey I wouldn't go to the store, but if you do go make sure you are quiet so you don't wake up the employee at the register

The last time my wife and I were in Vegas we took a couple of Pink Jeep tours (Valley of Fire and Hoover Dam) and would highly recommend them. The tour guides alone were worth a big part of the fee. The guy who took us through the Valley of Fire grew up only miles from there and the Hoover Dam guy was this Jerry Garcia type who was a real hoot.

(Note: Mods can delete this if we're not allowed to post commercial links)

We also went on the High Roller (Right by the Flamingo) and recommend that to anyone going to Vegas for the first time. Go around on that your first night and you get a great overall view of the Strip. Just don't get into a "ball" with someone who's motion sick or frightened of heights. Unless they're curled up in the fetal position and then they're not hurting anyone.

Finally Margaritaville is where we often hang our hat. If you can get up to the rooftop patio (If it's not too windy) and that's another good view of the strip and everyone wondering around. The food is usually decent, the beer is cold and the margaritas really hit the spot.

Now that I've typed all that I'm beginning to think we're about due for another trip.

I've visited the Valley of Fire a couple of times on trips to Vegas. It's an awesome place to see and really quite easy to tour on your own. Just make sure to bring plenty of water and some food.

I agree that it's an incredible spot. We were impressed by the rock formations and rock drawings. It's also the place where they filmed Star Trek: Generations. When we asked the tour guide where Kirk's character was buried he told us (And I kid you not) that the state didn't want us to know because they didn't want to create a Trekky shrine that would harm the valley.

It's pretty wild when the location of a non-existent grave is a state secret but it is Nevada.

Hi hockey fam

I'm heading to LV this weekend for my first time, but I need to watch my Pens in the playoffs. I was wondering if there were any good places to watch hockey that's near the strip? Might be willing to go outside Vegas if there are other spots to watch the games in a little more peace.

Thanks!
