For all intents and purposes, the 2014 NHL Draft table was a flurry of activity for the Vancouver Canucks and had immediate impact on their top 20 prospects. They were, amongst other areas of improvement, able to draft arguably their best left winger in 15 years and their best goaltender in 10 years.

Of course, with all draft picks patience is a virtue. Fans in Vancouver groan at the thought of waiting a few years to really witness players from the 2014 draft making an impact on the organization.… read more

I like it, bold rankings and is quite a testament to Benning's drafting. Three of Benning's selections are already in the top 5.

I found it funny how Curtis Lazar was bumped up to a 7.5B and Horvat is still a 7.5C.

And for those of you wondering, Eriksson and Corrado got bumped down from 7.0C to 7.0D while Cassels got a raise from 6.5C to 7.0C. Jensen also got bumped down to 7.5D.

Not actually surprised by the bump down tho the ratings are rather meaningless and for the most part i think every fan base don't agree with them (even the order for their own prospects).

Wow, what a mess. Not even sure where to begin.

Rankings of Demko, Tryamkin, Corrado, Hutton, Fox are all ~10 spots out of whack.

Basically looks like a laughable overrating of this years draft from someone who didn't have a clue about our previously existing prospects.

The issue is that Corrado and Jensen are already basically NHL-calibre and yet have D ratings.

So Corrado:

7.0D indicates he's somewhere between a No. 3-4 defenseman and a top minor league defenseman as his peak.

Well, he's already beyond that, into a No. 7 defenseman, arguably a No. 5-6 defenseman, so a 7.0C or 7.0B would be more appropriate if the writer feels his ceiling is as a No. 3-4 defenseman or unless he feels Corrado is going to regress (which is not indicated in his write-up).

Jensen:

7.5D indicates he's somewhere between a 1st line forward and a top minor league forward as his ceiling. Again, he's already beyond the lower-end of that. 7.5C would've been more appropriate if the writer feels his ceiling is as a first or second line forward, especially given the indication by the writer that he feels that Jensen is well-equipped for the NHL.

Make my day.

Benning thinks these rankings are ****. After all they make him look like a fool for wasting a 1st on McCann who's worth less than his 3rd round pick, especially given neither player has had a chance to do anything since being drafted.

The ratings are improving though...
I do believe MCcann will be the best nhl player out of Bo, Virtanen, Hunter

Can someone please explain how Jeremie Blaine is tied for Vancouvers top rated defence prospect?

The whole thing is a mess......makes you wonder who actually updates the website. Pretty sure their day job isn't following hockey. Hfboards is really a great website, but I think it time for hockeys future to go. It's embarrassing really.

I love Demko, but he's not our 2nd best prospect, even assuming Virtanen is our first (also a huge stretch).

I'm excited to see how each does in pre-season play, but 1 and 2? I really don't feel our prospect pool got it's due here.

Also, Horvat will win a Selke, score 41 goals, have the most hits in the league and save a little girls kitten from a tree and still somehow be listed as a "C" prospect. So buckle in ladies and gentlemen, we're in for a long development arc.

Tryamkin is about 12 spots too high and demko who I'm a fan of isn't #2 more like 8.
Corrado and Hutton too low. Shinkaruk should move up a spot or two. Horvat is still number 1. Virtanen is a little too high. Speaking of too high, who wrote this ?

It's one thing to ***** about these rankings not going right along with the consensus polls on these boards, because if they did that it would be boring. But it's absurd to have someone write an article that looks like it had the rankings produced by a random generator.

Even if you have a huge boner for this draft, Tryamkin over McCann? Chara-light narratives aside of course...

It's not all about goals.

Did you know Demko took over the #1 job in the NCAA for Boston at 16?

I don't agree he's better than Horvat, but he's one heck of a prospect.

We all suck and the kids suck the most suck that ever sucked.

Though I must say the only positive thing about this article was that it reminded me of the existence of Blain. Score!
