Looked good today, and had 1A (one got taken away on a disallowed goal). If Podz can be > 1PPG in the MHL, and ~.65PPG in the VHL I think it'll be a successful season for him. KHL producation will largely depend on his ice time, so we'll see how that plays out (hopefully he can get to 3rd line mins, but it'll be a challenge on SKA).

Current stats (2019/2020)
KHL - 9GP 0G 0A 0PTS
VHL - 2GP 0G 1A 1PT
MHL - 1GP 0G 1A 1PT

Last season (for reference)
KHL - 3Gp 0G 0A 0PTS
VHL - 14GP 2G 3A 5PTS
MHL - 12GP 6G 2 A 8PTS

Podkolzin is playing in a KHL game currently with a regular 4th line shift, just yesterday he played in the MHL and had 2A (one assist was called off as no goal for goalie interference).

So he is essentially bouncing between three leagues now (KHL, VHL, MHL) whenever each team has a day off.

This is awful for his development. He needs to get comfortable in one league at a time.

Team should do whatever it takes to get him to Utica.

This is basically a development year for Podkolzin, I suspect next year he will be full time in the KHL with more prominent ice time. That will be a real indicator of where he is.

He's playing in the same city so it's not like he's traveling all over to get this extra ice time.

Also, the Canucks can't do anything to help him get out of his KHL contract. If they tried and were caught we'd lose picks or worse for doing it. Plus Podz would likely lose money on the deal and be leaving a team he specifically targeted as being good for his development so he'd probably have no interest in leaving either.

nah, it's not awful, they're giving him a ton of games to play and ice time on various levels. If anything, this is an extremely intense development program.
Helps that the 3/teams are close to each other. I don't worry too much about chemistry since he usually plays with the same lines on each team. This at least gets him some higher mins and confidence.

That's because few people in North America learn Russian.

It's not usually offered at a high school level and few people would choose to major in a difficult and not in-demand language in their post-secondary education. I personally think it would be cool to have it as an option in school as there's a lot of world history and great literature that can only be properly enjoyed in Russian.

it's a very different development approach for sure. must be weird to be parachuted into three different lineups but if the teammates are all used to it i assume they make allowances for each other.

This will be very interesting to watch as we go along here. Soderstrom looked outstanding last night.

There are a half dozen or more guys to watch. Soderstrom among that group.

Seem to recall seeing a report that Chayka had Soderstrom at 3 on his board.

Here is some video from his KHL game on the 26th.

Much more under control this outing. Really like how this player never cheats defensively. He always stays with the play and it's clear that he processes information constantly while he's away from the puck. Skating looked labored at times. That might be due to fatigue from playing so often.

He's learning to flip a lot of mental switches frequently.

He'll either find a groove of effectiveness and confidence... or lead to a bit of frustration and pressure if he doesn't. Forces him to adapt and find a way to contribute differently vs different levels of competition. All depends on his drive and mental fortitude to plow thru the challenge and remain focused.

Must be sleeping like a baby these days.

Has any single hockey player played more real games than Podkolzin this season so far?
