Of course they are glad. They have Schmidt and Dillion why do they need Poolman? He’s a good #4/#5 at worst, 2.5 is fair for a right handed dman of his caliber.

They didn't want to sign him because he's bad. This is what they are saying.

I struggle how you can conclude the bolded. His shot/chance metrics aren't anything special, and anytime he's been given more than 3rd pair responsibility he gets absolutely caved.

He's a bottom pair defenseman making double the AAV and quadruple the term than he should. Is Benning ever going to learn to stop making long-term commitments to marginal players?

His metrics suck because he got tossed on the top pairing with Morrisey. He’s not a top pairing guy and it showed. He’s fine on the second pairing

The Canucks fans saying Tanev lite are going to be in for a big shock

This is not a player that can defensively carry a top 4 pairing, he will get his face caved in

He can carry a bottom pair or be a complimentary guy to a good 2-way 2nd pairing LHD
That’s all we need him to be. Next to Hughes on the second pairing or carry the bottom pairing with Rathbone

It’s a bit rich, but he has the tools as another poster mentioned. Getting away from Maurice and Huddy might get him to the next level.

Isn’t 2.5M pretty much the going rate for a 4/5 right shot UFA D in this day and age?

I get that maybe it’s a year too long but he will only be 32 at the end of the deal.

it is what it is really.
