Let's face it, Dale Weise was on the bubble here. He was given a one year contract to prove himself and he ended up not being the right fit. A 5th rounder for Dale Weise + needed rental of Diaz to fill a spot on the blueline is solid.

diaz was acquired as injury insurance when the blueline was battered...now that everybody is healthy there's no spot in the lineup for him anymore

they gave up a 4th for dalpe, might as well regain that mid round pick if he wasn't going to dress this season or sign here in the offseason
