I can't wait for Karmanos to sell this team to some local investors and for us to shed our toxic contracts so we can start building a competitive roster again. The whole "move the Hurricanes back to Hartford" meme has been around every since we got the club in 1997 and it's still impossible to have a conversation with a lot of hockey fans without hearing something about the Whalers.

We've been pretty stable, but of course these trolls will come right out of the woodwork when we're having a crappy year with crappy attendance.

If the 'Canes move at some point (which I think is EXTREMELY unlikely), I'll be crushed, but I'll still follow the NHL. But if they move back to Hartford, I'll be done with the sport entirely.

Probably just going to get worse as the season rolls on and the 10k attendance numbers keep rolling in. But they aren't going anywhere. Moving a pro sports franchise isn't exactly an easy thing to do.

yeah, I have trouble with the re-location "talk" but think that Karmanos selling out is a real possibility and IMO, would probably be for the best for this franchise. to me, as complicated as it may be, he is the root problem.

95% of all the "relocation" talk is just the ranting and ravings of delusional, xenophobic Canadians and some New England area Americans who think there shouldn't be hockey south of Pennsylvania.

The team isn't moving, despite their lunatical rambling. And that's a 2 x win in my book. We keep our beloved #hcanes and it pisses all the nay sayers off :yo:

I don't even see Canadians saying we could go back to Hartford. Or even a lot of people from Hartford. It's just a niche of New Englanders indulging a fantasy.

Not even mad.

That's cause they want us to relocate to Saskatoon. Highest per capita percentage of NHL players.

Yep, it's just sad how much a few of those guys will hang on to any hope that the Canes are going to re-locate back up to Hartford. VAST majority of them have moved on, and either are still fans of us or are zero ****s given about us.

That said I think I'd rather see Hartford with another team then Quebec with one... if only to act as a giant middle finger to the idiots disguising extreme nationalism and one hell of an inferiority complex as "traditionalist ideas".

I agree wholeheartedly and won't go into any anti-Canadian rants because you've all heard them a hundred times.

That said, if I owned a team, it'd be great to own a Canadian one. Dumb ***** will line up around the block, regardless of weather to pay anything I charge to watch a team win 15 games a year and never make the Playoffs, let alone sniff a Cup. Then thank me for it.

It's like having a prostitute pay you instead of the other way around :sarcasm:

What's the point in hiring Waddell to expand the Hurricanes' influence if they're going to move the team a year later? That is unless he's the closer and they lied to our faces.

Bingo. I covered the Thrashers their first four seasons and I know from first-hand experience that Don Waddell is an habitual liar. From where I'm sitting there's only one good reason to hire Waddell and it has nothing to do with expanding the market unless they mean expand it to somewhere else.

I would have thought Karmanos knew how to move a team himself, but I guess he had to bring in Waddell to make it happen.

You nailed it. Until I see something different that's exactly what he is. He is devoid of integrity and honesty. He aided and abetted ASG every step of the way in their dismantling of the NHL in Atlanta. No good will come of his association with your team.

Ron Francis said they're not looking to move Eric Staal... So if we do move it looks like Eric will sit in a darkened PNC locker room until an expansion team comes through 20 years from now.

He takes the "No Movement Clause" very literally.

What was he realistically supposed to do? All signs point to A$G selling as soon as they could-right after they bought out Belkin, and after the rumored 7 year clause was up. They then began to talk with some California magnate about selling the Hawks, which was just a farce so that they could show the NHL that there were no reasonable offers for the Thrashers locally.

And there weren't, because no one in his right mind would buy the Thrashers, and only the Thrashers, with A$G still in control of the arena. But there were competitive offers for all 3, though it remains to be seen if the NHL could have blocked the move the Winnipeg on the grounds of that. Would have been an interesting court case.

But I don't think Waddell purposefully drove the Thrashers into the ground. More likely is that he was simply incompetent, and his efforts to improve the team were hindered by that and a lack of support from ownership. And what would have gained by saying "Yeah, they're going to move as soon as they can?" to the public? No free agent would want to sign there, and he would have been fired, and for what?
