Well done Lyon, well deserved as well.

Too bad for Legia that Kovacic goal.
Was trying to think : if Dortmund beats Real, Real could miss the next round with a final match at Sporting.

Lyon will eat their **** this year again.
Had they beaten Juve like they should have two weeks ago, they'd be ahead of Turin before the last two games (and 3 free points against Zagreb).

I was thinking that if Real lost, Dortmund could go through in first place even with a loss in Madrid on goal differential. As bad and surprising as Madrid's draw vs. Legia is, the results today don't change anything for them. If they beat Dortmund and Sporting, they're through in first place. If they draw or lose either of those matches, they most likely finish behind Dortmund. This was also the case before the match.

It would take losing both remaining games for RM to miss the knockout stages. Very unlikely, although possible.

Away at Monaco is now essentially a must-win for Spurs.

In fact, they now face the two toughest opponents both of which they struggled against earlier this season.
Frankly Real beating Sporting was a miracle this year.

That's the hope. If only Sporting had held on to the draw at the Bernabeu

Decent match from Dortmund I guess. Defensive performance was actually solid in the second half. Offense still isn't clicking like it was before the international break. Guerreiro imo still wasn't up to full speed. Good match from Pulisic. I liked his chemistry with Götze. Ramos shows again that he's a good backup striker.

Big win for Leverkusen to move into second place in their group.

why is the stadium empty?
UEFA banned fans for 1 or 2? games, because of troubles at the Legia - Dortmund game. Flares, and Legia fans attacked Dortmund fans and security in that game.

A shame, what a night it would have been...

So after matchday 4 here how the groups are laid out:

Group A - Arsenal and PSG are advancing, their match on the 23rd will likely decide who takes the top spot.

Group B - 3 way race between Napoli, Benfica and Besiktas. Kiev not technically eliminated, but basically are.

Group C - Barca will advance, if City can draw against Monchengladbach they're guaranteed to advance too.

Group D - Atleti and Bayern of moving on. Likely their matchday 6 game will decide who gets top seed with Atleti just needing a draw.

Group E - Monaco in the drivers seat but not locked yet. Bayer beating Spurs today moves them to 2nd, 2 points ahead. If Spurs don't win against Monaco on matchday 5, they're all but done.

Group F - Dortmund on top of the group, RM second. Likely their matchday 6 fixture will decide the top seed. Sporting still alive technically, but needs to beat RM in week 5 and then hope that RM loses to Dortmund in week 6.

Group G - Leicester didn't take the opportunity to basically lock up their top spot. Porto and Kopenhagen are alive, with Porto sitting 2 points up. They play on matchday 5 so a Porto win there will eliminate Kopenhagen.

Group H - Sevilla looking to break their Europa streak. Juventus doing their best to let Lyon get back into it but couldn't fail enough. Likely the Juventus/Sevilla match on gameday 5 will decide the top seed.

Real are far less inconsistent at home than away. The point is, their fate is still very much in their own hands. I find it highly unlikely that Sporting wins both matches, and that Madrid comes away with only 1 point or less in those final two matches.

You may call it a miracle, but Madrid is actually very good at still getting wins out of awful performances. It's the hallmark of the Zidane era in fact.

If Real Madrid and Sporting draw and we beat Legia, we can go through in first, as long as we don't lose to Real Madrid by more than one goal. If its by one goal, it goes to goals scored, which they currently lead 12 to 11.

We will most likely go through first with a draw in that final match, as long as we don't lose three points to them over the next round of games, although if they beat Sporting by 3 or more goals, maybe not.

Its possible for Real Madrid to not go through to the next round. If they only get 0 or 1 point in the final two group stage games, they might not go through.
