After transferring to Wisconsin, things have been far from rosy. Read a vague comment, on a Canadiens prospect site, stating Ty was out with "personal reasons."

Is this a case whereby Florida might have known something concerning about him? Red flag material.

The Badgers men's hockey team focused on increasing its pace of play this week. Here's a reason why that could be crucial to success this weekend at Michigan State.

Left wing Ty Smilanic, the leading NCAA goal-scorer on the roster from his two seasons at Quinnipiac before a transfer, was still away from the team for unspecified personal reasons this week. He's still in Madison, Granato said.
"We expect him back at some point here soon, but there's no definite date," Granato said.

I assume the Habs knew before hand, from the rumors he had something going on at Quinnipiac which is more of why he left what is the current #2 ranked team in the NCAA for one of the worst teams in Wisconsin. Though it's just talk so no one really knows what's going on.

No, but this long of a leave absence I would say it's probably something serious. It could be anything from a family member dying (of cancer or something else) and he wanting to be with them, to rehab to something else entirely different.

From interviews, it certainly seemed like he expected to play the whole season, and had hoped to turn pro after this season.

It is highly unlikely now that he turns pro.

Just hope things are ok with him.

Hope so but the track he is on may not even get a NHL contract from us. Turns 21 in a few days and his NCAA stats are meh.
