Solid prospect. I took him in the 2020 mock draft on this site. He was one of the better forwards on the USA U18 team in 2019-20.

We've all looked at his EP profile, but notice he's listed at 6'1 ?

Can't imagine the new regime is all about size, but they like players that have size that goes with speed or skill, or both and not just "does werk gud "

didn't know much about him... like what i'm reading...
dropped from 1st round potential to 3rd after battling several injuries in his draft year
good 1st year in college
made team USA WJC team (a deep one at that) in year 2

excellent skater
versatile and reliable defensively
top 1-2 goal scorer on each team he's been on 3 of past 4 seasons (year he wasnt = injuries & draft year drop).

aside from being another NCAA prospect who might well play 4 years and be a risk to not sign, a lot to like about the asset. High floor/moderate ceiling with attributes that fully mesh with style of play Gorton/Hughes/MSL seem intent on fostering.

I have never heard of this player so I have to trust the new leadership.

Not many 3rd rounders become NHLers, I hope he is the exception.

He made WJC team so that's pretty good. Might be a good 3rd C in future.

I watched him for two years with the US NTDP (have season tickets). Ty was injured during much of his 2nd season here. He was probably a late 1st or early 2nd round prospect without the injuries - - one of the better players on a weak NTDP squad.

BTW, his parents sat in front of us for two years. I don't think they missed a single game. He seems to have a strong support group in his family.

Welcome aboard to The Formula.

It won’t be “Cakes”, it was already tried once and didn’t work so well. 😺
As much as I detest fans making fake nick names for people they have never met......it would be hilarious if the boys referred to him as "milk"

Smilanic 19/20 this year was surrounded by older players at Quinnipiac. In the top-12 points leaders of the team, he was sixth, but the other 11 were aged 22 to 25, no players at 21. So a bigger offensive role should help him to get more points next year.
