Just the difference in demeanor between Rask and Halak after last nights game was night and day. Halak was serious and Rask was nonchalant and joking. It sounds like he’s dealing with something right now so it’s understandable and I think he’ll improve, but if it’s fair to criticize Krejci and his play and contract, then it’s fair to criticize Rask too. It’s been years since he’s been top 15 in save percentage.

Every player is different. I don’t think how a goalie responds publicly to a bad outing says anything about how much they care.

I’m not sure what the last part of your statement means? Do you think that people will actually stop being critical just because he took a leave of absence?

He won a freaking Vezina and that never stopped them

I would have to go back and look to be 100% certain, but I believe if he didn’t come out, the VAN player (Horvat?) would have had a breakaway.

I blame that goal just as much on Krejci and his bonehead turnover on the PP.
And his hesitation coming back. He slowed back and once he saw Horvat tried to bust his tail. Krejci should have been the first guy on that puck.

It's the things we see differently that gives us varying opinions.

I will say I hope everything is ok with Tuukka and his family. That said I wonder if he was told to go home until they can work out a trade he will accept. I don't know how his response in interviews after the game will sit with coaching/management.

Halak gives up 5 goals in less than 2 periods. Next morning? Halak thread remains firmly on page 2. Rask thread never drops out of the top 3 spots on page 1.

Never change hfboards.
Halak is our backup and he is discussed in the Rask thread so there is nothing to really add in the Halak thread. Same thing happened when Thomas was the starter and Rask was the backup. All the talk was in the Thomas thread and nothing in the Rask thread because we were already discussing Rask in the Thomas thread.

The thread for the starter will get all the traffic and the backup will be discussed in the starter thread.

Here's the interview for anyone who missed it. Rask starts at 1:16. The 'keep it under 10' comment is amusing when isolated, but the follow up stuff about the crowd napping and sports being entertainment and them 'just providing it' are bizarre.

I must say though, if something has happened with his family, I sincerely wish him nothing but the best.

I also wouldn't be surprised if he was told by management/ownership to go and clear his head for a few days, and decide if he wants to play for the team or not.

People hate robot interview responses, same people hate anything remotely non-robotic so they can dig into it to find fault.

You and I and everyone in here have no clue what is.

If having a clue was a hard requirement for posting here, the board would be pretty empty.

If others found my speculation disrespectful, then I'm sorry for that. But for me personally, an ambiguous 'personal matters' statement from the Bruins doesn't suddenly close the book on his bizarre post-game interview.

I will say that that was one weird interview from Rask. I'm not a Rask hater by any means but I have to be honest, I'm kind of glad he's taking a leave of absence as something appears to be up.

Not for me to speculate about whether is is a family issue, attitude issue, whatever...... we'll probably never find out, so not much use in speculating.

The reason I say I'm glad he's taking some time (hopefully to successfully deal with whatever is up) is because if one of my teammates said "a loss is a loss, at the end of the day it doesn't really matter" and then says something about simply "providing entertainment" I'd rip him a new one.

People are looking for something in the interview that doesn’t exist imo. Goalies are a notoriously weird lot and Rask is no exception. This interview is not all that different from his normal ones. People are just going back over it and looking for clues because of the leave of absence.

Rask routinely gives very straight-forward and dry responses in his interviews. He often says that he was bad or that a teammate could have been better on a play. To me, this interview was not much of a departure, if at all.

It’s funny how if Tuukka tells everyone that a game in November doesn’t really matter but if Krejci says something to that effect it’s brought up for years and held against him. I’m not a Rask hater but any criticism directed towards him and you’re a Rask hater.

Tuuka's response seemed a lot more genuine than Halak's. What I mean is, yes, Halak sounded serious, but all he said was just the same old spiel that you always hear after games like that when you lose... 'we have to play better... work harder... etc.' Whereas Tuuka responded to the game as one of those nights where the puck is going in no matter what you do, at both ends, and as a goalie you just try your best and hope that 'to keep it under 10'.

I prefer a genuine response rather than the typical words that we always here.

I'm all for more candor in interviews, which is something Rask has always provided, but saying what he said was just stupid. Guy's gotta be aware of the situation he's in right now and comments like this just give off the impression that he does not care at all. You don't have to sugarcoat it with cliche responses or give yourself 50 lashes after a loss, just maybe don't joke about keeping it under 10 goals when your status as a starting goalie is hanging by a thread, if that thread hasn't been cut already. If he doesn't care about it, why should anyone else?

I am legitimately relieved that there was actually something that attributed to the slow start Tuukka had. Needless to say, I do not ever wish anything negative on anyone and I hope all works out OK for Tuukka.

All that being said, I was taken back by the responses I was getting when I was pointing out that Tuukkas' play was not up to par.

Take away the Washington fiasco and Tuuka is 4-3 with a .917 sv% and a 2.49 GAA. Not outstanding, but not exactly a train wreck either.
