Uhh I think you forgot a pretty big game there. When Bruins are on the brink of elimination he has a sub .900 save percentage.

As would most goalies i'd imagine. There is a reason why teams get eliminated, they usually get outplayed by the other team resulting in poor stats. Patrick Roy would have a sub .900 save percentage in elimination games i'm sure if one took the time to look it up.

It's games they CAN be eliminated in, not games they lose. Here's every active goalie's performance. Also, I've included Roy.

6-6 in elimination games isn't so bad. Roy was 12-12. lot's of good goalies with poor stats in elimination games, lots of bad goalies with good numbers in elimination games. it's a meaningless stat. Basically the games you win you'll have great stats because your team probably played well and the games you lost you'll have bad stats because your team played poorly.

I think the trade with devils in the early 90's stings more where they gave up a high draft that turned out to be scott neidermeyer.

All you can do is compare how they've performed and what they can control, wins/losses are just an aside. Bruins were down 4-1 against the Leafs in the 3rd period in 2013 in an elimination game, and Rask got a win for that game.

You literally referenced specific save percentages in elimination games and I've more than backed up my argument against that. Not sure what you're flipping to now.

2010 Flyers Game 7 - 4/27
2013 Leafs Game 7 - 4/28
2013 Blackhawks Game 6 - 3/31
2014 Canadiens Game 7 - 3/18
2017 Senators Game 5 - 2/43
2017 Senators Game 6 - 3/29
2018 Leafs Game 7 - 4/24
2018 Lightning Game 5 - 2/21
2019 Leafs Game 6 - 2/24
2019 Leafs Game 7 - 1/33
2019 Blues Game 6 - 1/29
2019 Blues Game 7 - 4/20

12 GP: 33/327 = .899
I think that poster misunderstood "elimination game" as a game in which a team was eliminated rather than could be eliminated.

Well he's out performed Andersen head to head the past two playoffs. What's your definition of better?
First of all, no he hasn't.

2018, for sure. In 2019, the Leafs are out in 4 or 5 if Andersen doesn't stand on his head. Even in game 6, which they lost, he nearly stole the series in a game the Leafs were badly outplayed in.

And my definition of better is over 328 games, not 14.

So the games that count the most don't matter as much?

Also Tuuka's GAA is lower in both seasons. Isn't the goal of a goalie to let in less goals?

Yes the playoffs matter more, but the sample is garbage.

If you're talking about a guy like Justin Williams who has 155 playoff appearances, it's valid to say he's doing something different there.

Andersen isn't at that point, nor has he been bad in his small sample of playoff games.

The guy at the top of this list was GARBAGE in the playoffs until 2012:

This is a gross oversimplification and you know it.

You're comparing the gold standard of defensive hockey since the lockout to a poor defensive team and putting everything on the goaltenders.

Let me make sure I have my ducks in order.

Sample size of 4 full regular seasons do not matter because it's not the playoffs.
Sample size of 14 playoff games is the be all end all since the games matter the most.

So according to your logic, you think Jake Guentzel is a much better player than Connor McDavid based on their stats in the 2016-2017 playoffs.

You can't think that's legitimate.

If a goalie were to allow 2 goals on 14 shots his GAA is still only 2 but a pitiful save percentage. If a goalie allows 3 goals on 37 his GAA is higher but clearly a much better goaltending performance.
