He's also worth more than just a cap dump trade. Hes not exactly cap dump.when he can play on your top 6 and make your bottom 6 better
You are ignoring my comments in post 69 where I see him as a trade "sweetener", which is more than a cap dump. I get it, you are obviously a Perreault fan, but in a cap world, these types of moves are a necessity, especially with the abundance of young talent the Jets have.

MP is a good player, and certainly has value, I would never refer to him as a dump, that's silly, although I do understand how the term could be misused to attempt to poorly communicate WPGs possible upcoming cap crunch.

When you can get a young top 4 dman locked in long term to fill the eventual leaving Trouba that's about the best outcome you can expect. He isn't better imo, but that's a really good replacement in a position that's notoriously hard to fill.
You've expressed my thoughts perfectly. Thank you.

Yes they could trade Perreault for picks as a stand alone trade. But in my proposed trade he is being used as a "sweetener", which till has value and if you look at the Jets cap room and who they need to re-sign in the next year or two, they will need to eliminate Perreault's contract.
Jets don't need to add a sweetener because Trouba is better than Ekblad. The Panthers aren't the only team that will be interested in Trouba. It will be a competitive market.

If I'm the Panthers I'd want Trouba and Brossoit for Ekblad and picks.
Perreault is good, even if he's having a rough year, but in goal is where the Panthers are hurting the most.

We'll see. I highly doubt the Jets have several Ekblad type offers for Trouba. Trouba has leverage here as well and it is widely rumored that he wants to play in Florida. Trouba's agent Overhardt is not an easy one to deal with either.

If you look at the Jets cap situation, and the young players they have in the pipeline, you will quickly realize that this is likely Perreault's last season as a Jet.
I think the point is though that you don't just throw in Perreault as a "sweetener". The Jets would be better off trading him for extra picks in that case.

The fact that Florida is getting the better defenseman in the deal should be a pretty good sweetener in and of itself.

What's Perreault worth on his own? A 2nd rounder maybe? I think you are overvaluing Perreault here.

I wouldn't as a Panthers fan. We could offer you a futures base deal with maybe Matheson as a roster player/LHD defenseman.

Dont see why we would help your GM when we know Trouba is very likely to leave WPG.

This is honestly what I expect from Fla's side. They will be able to put together a very solid package of futures which with WPGs upcoming cap uncertainty and contending status could be very useful. I don't see any team really offering them an Ekblad and I also don't know if Fla will have the best package but this is more in line with what I expect to actually see.

WPG needs to continue to stock the pond on defense, Trouba + Myers are likely to leave and Buff is in his twilight days.

We could offer our 2019 1st + Matheson + lesser prospect or 2019 1st + Weegar/Pysyk + better prospect. Outside of that I dont see a team helping Chevy with a 1 for 1 lateral trade on defense and dont see someone offering up a young #2C that has some #1C potential

While I feel another team would likely have a better offer than that, I think your evaluation of the situation is pretty solid. I'll be interested as a neutral fan to see how WPG navigates these next few years. Although as long as they keep up their god level drafting it wont be too hard.

Well a second rounder is better than throwing him away for nothing. The Jets are pretty dang good at drafting.

Ya keep drafting some mid to late round gems and hopefully if they can win a cup soon they can sign veterans who would take a pay cut to chase a cup like PIT/CHI/LA did.
Not to be rude but most dont have WPG on their list to live long term.

I didn't suggest "throwing him away for nothing". My proposed trade has him as a "sweetener" in order to get the deal done. That has value. So you throw in a 2nd rounder or Perreualt. If we agree Perreault is worth a 2nd rounder in a trade, it's essentially the same thing, except for those who have an emotional attachment to Perreault the player.

You'd be surprised how many players want to stay in Winnipeg after playing there. Not surprised by your comment because it is one we hear alot, but it is uninformed.

no.

"Did a defender deflect a pass, land a body check, strip the puck, jump a passing lane to intercept, or otherwise make a play that was the cause of a turnover? That's a takeaway."

Also, a bodycheck is a TA

Yes, but the take away statistic is awarded to the player that is taking the puck. Not the player that has had the puck taken away from him.

When you have a take away it is a good thing. It means you took the puck from the other team.

A give away is a bad thing. It means you gave the puck to the other team.

you are right, my mistake on the Takeaway, the takeaway is given to the other player

Takeaway - By definition a takeaway occurs when pressure from the defending team results in a defending player gaining possession of the puck.
Giveaway - A giveaway is when a players own actions result in a loss of possession to the opposing team.

I should have said American players playing in Canada. Some dont like the spotlight or weather conditions. I love Winnipeg personally, been there a couple times and one of the two Canadian teams I cheer for.

Again I think you're off base. Wheeler and Byfuglien just re-signed and arguably took less money to stay with the Jets. Hellebuyck just re-signed too. All top tier American players.

Buff is a hunter/outdoorsman so it works for him. Didnt mean to say everyone but Trouba has been linked/rumored to want to play in the US. I'll just stop putting my foot in my mouth here
Hope it all works for you guys but know FLA would be interested in Trouba and helping you guys stick the pond if need be
